Garmin FIT File Transfer - I'm tool old

Hi all, apologies in advance but need some really binary advice / solution.

I've got a Garmin 945 and a mac, I've downloaded a FIT file for a specific route I'm planning on running.

1) What software do I need on my mac to transfer the downloaded file to my watch

2) I'm reading about gimporters and gimps etc - but it mentions elsewhere I can do this via connect IQ - but thats not in the app store

Any practical advice / step by step guide really appreciated - at my current rate it will take longer to set up than run the 20km route Slight smile.

The route appears to be quite complex and the risk of getting lost could actually be very dangerous! I'm looking for the watch to "guide me".

Many thanks in advance.

  • If the .fit is on your mac alreay, I think all you have to do it copy it it the garmin\newfiles folder on the watch.  With a mac you need ATP:

    https://www.android.com/filetransfer/

  • You can also do this wirelessly from your Mac, assuming your Garmin is set up to sync by Wi-Fi or Bluetooth.

    If it's a FIT file:

    1) Open Garmin Connect on your Mac in Safari or Chrome: https://connect.garmin.com/

    2) From the left-hand menu, select Activities > All Activities

    3) Select Import (from the top-right hand corner)

    4) Import your FIT file (which creates a new activity)

    5) Navigate to the activity, click on the gear icon (top-right hand) and select Save as Course

    6) Navigate to the course, and select "Send to Device"

    7) Sync your watch with WiFi or Bluetooth

If it's a GPX or TCX file:

    1) Open Garmin Connect

    2) From the left-hand menu, select Training > Courses

    3) Select Import (below the Create Course button)

    4) Import your GPX/TCX file

    5) Navigate to the course, and select "Send to Device"

    6) Sync your watch with WiFi or Bluetooth

(Yeah, it's probably too many steps either way -_-.)
