Continuous storing and forwarding all sensor metrics over extended periods

I am a software engineer trialing using a Garmin watch for position and health metric monitoring of personal in outdoor environments. We have a Forerunner 945 for prototyping and I had the following questions..

Is there a way for to have a watch app always running without user-interaction and prevent user from stopping/disabling the app? (I tried the wat
The device will only occasionally be within range of a Bluetooth phone running the Garmin Connect app which seems to be the only way send data from the device?
To ingest metrics collected on the watch can multiple watches be paired with one phone?
Can data be sent by WiFi?
Can the Application Storage limit of 128KB be exceeded? Seems I can record sensor metrics (but not position?) to a FIT file but an Activity needs to be started by the user?

Basically trying to find out if any way to collect; store and forward a days worth of position and sensor metrics recorded continuously..

You could write a device app that doesn't allow the user to exit, but then you can do nothing else on the device.

If you want to collect this data, why not record a .fit? It would have all the data…

If you want to collect this data, why not record a .fit? It would have all the data you're looking for You would need to allow the stop/save in the app so the fit can be synced, fit files aren't limited to 128k.

You can have multiple watches paired with the same phone, but they would all be on the same Garmin Connect account. The limit if I recall is 8 or so.

Collecting a days worth of info including GPS would have a real impact on the battery,

Thanks so much for you response; I saw "device app" mentioned in the docs once but thereafter only "watch face; watch app and widget".. Where can I find more info on developing a device app?

I'm guessing with a device app I will have control to exceede this limit: "The limit if I recall is 8 or so". I might need 100s of devices!

device app and watch app are really the same. device app is a bit for accurate name as there are devices (like an Edge) that aren't watches.

The limit with a single phone is something like 8 paired devices. If you want 100's of devices you'll need a bunch of phones.

If you're looking at using fit files, you may want to go with a phone/gc account for each device just so the data can be ID.

If you go with you're own data collection, you can ID the device with the data in the makeWebRequest, but there's you're limited to the size of Application.Storage and the transmission when possible would probably need to be sent at about 8k for each call..

You could create a log file on the device, but there you are limited to two 8k rotating log files, and to get them, you'd have to connect to a pc/mac with a cable.

Possible to access recorded fit files myself to and upload via makeWebRequest?

Also have an idea to make a watch face which opens the app and starts recording and prevents exiting to ensure app is always running

You can't read.fit files and send them buy way of CIQ, and a watch faces can't launch a device app

They don't use CIQ - they are native code in the firm ware
