Where can I find out how many CIQ DataFields each device can have per activity?

Hi,

As per thread title;

I got a shock when someone with a Fenix 5 explained how he was limited to only two CIQ DF when my lowly 735xt can handle three. I had thought Fenix was supposed to be a top-end SuperWatch for the rich people! Surely, I had assumed it would at least equal but probably better my watch as both must surely be a similar vintage.

Given that it materially affects the usefulness of things like my newest range of dials... this has suddenly become an important thing for me to KNOW rather than suspect or think.

So, short of doing a smash&grab raid on a fanatic Garmin collector then testing each device, as this is not something I can test on SDK, where can I find out how many CIQ DataFields each device can have per activity?

Also, specifically, what about the Edge devices?

In the sim, you can only test one field at a time, and that same field is displayed in each field in a multi-field layout.

It shows you the max memory for a target without looking in devices.xml - on the…

All wearable with the exception if the 735 (and the Epix if I recall) are limited to 2. CIQ DFs.

The thing that varies is the available memory per DF, with some as low as 16K,

Non wearables (like edge devices) support 4 or 10..

The way to show more data is to do things like full screen DFs that display a bunch of info.

Well that explains the total failure of my attempt to interest people in a family of three, related, DF!

But... I just did a "find all" in devices.xml for id="datafield" memory_limit="16384" and found only 9 hits out of 69 entries and every one of them was CIQ 1.4.4 where most of my fields target 2.1 or higher. My lowly 735xt has only 32768 for DataField but there are vast numbers with 128KB or more, and the Fenix 5S (which brought me to this issue) has exactly the same amount.

I have fields to support both methods, at the cost of some richness in the available FitContributions, but it really affects what I advise people. I guess my case is not the norm for DataFields, but I am trying to provide a holistic data solution for pacing and data junkies.

Would be nice to have a formal means to test even if I can't have a formal means to just look it up in the devices.xml!

Actually that's not completely true. You can acces the widget loop when the activity is in stopped state and you wait until the power save time out occurs you get to clock and widget loop. (When you resume the activity at that point the 3rd ciq field crashes though)

Wait - what?

It slipped past me this morning, but does that mean if I upgrade to a 945 or Fenix 6, I get less flexibility and functionality?

Nope. 2 CIQ DFs on most watches. While you'll only have 28k per DF on an f6, you'll have 124k on an f6 pro (more memory on music devices).. The 945 allows 124k (again, a music devices)

The edge devices can support up to 10 CIQ data fields at in a single activity profile. I checked on my edge 1000 and 830.
