235 - ap for doing activity that's an indoor workout

I'm new to my Garmin - is there an IQ ap I can use to record an 'activity' that's an indoor workout such as a gym workout other than by using either 'indoor run' or 'other' (which records GPS and then looks like a run in my activity log)

I know I can do it that way and then edit it on the main Garmin site to change the activity type to be a cross train or similar but I would really like to be able to just do it and not have to faff around.

I believe that there are apps in the app store that do this already. This is the one example.

On some devices, you can create custom activity profiles, but I'm not sure about the 230/235.

Hi, thanks for this. I have used that gym timer ap but its just a timer - it doesn't record an activity event into your activity history and that's what I was looking for specifically.

No, that app is not just a timer. If you read the blurb in the application description, you will see that it is capable of recording workouts...

- Start a workout to keep track of your activities, it will be uploaded automatically to Garmin Connect and classified as a "FITNESS EQUIPMENT" training

Additionally...

HOW TO START AN ACTIVITY:

Fenix and 920: Hold the MENU button for 3 seconds and select the START ACTIVITY option

FR 230/235: Hold the UP button for 3 seconds and select the START ACTIVITY option

FR 630: Press the START button (the right upper one).

Vivoactive: Press the START button (the one on the right side) of your watch.

Epix: Press the START button (the right upper one).

As for whether or not the activity would show up in your activity history on your device, I have no idea about that. There is no ConnectIQ functionality to manipulate the on-device workout history, so it would have to happen automatically. If it doesn't show up when you record an activity with that app, then it probably isn't going to happen for any app.

An activity recorded by a CIQ app does show up in history on the 230. If it's not a standard type, like running, the icon when you scroll through history is just "IQ" instead of an icon for a specific activity.
