Next Sun Event - Sunset sample code

I know there are some past references to this, but I haven't seen anything less than 2 years old.

It looks like we still do not have access to that info straight from Garmin. Is there any coding / function that is used now to calculate the sunset or sunrise, without monkey barrels? Any sample would work.

I know how to get the current location from activity, and I can try to code based on the astronomical algorithm. if someone is willing to share (for me and others), it would save me a bunch of days of coding and testing.

It would be nice to have a set reference for some basic code that we all could use. Like the activity location and so on.

I think that there are two methods for getting sunset/sunrise. One is to use the latest position and an algorithm as you suggest. Another would be to create a companion app on the phone that uses the latest position in the phone at get the ss/sr time from a service provider (such as https://sunrise-sunset.org/api). The widget, watch face or app could store the latest times and show that when there is no phone connection.

I think that the latest method is what Garmin does, they use Garmin Connect and the phone position, which is why it isn't available directly by the ConnectIQ API's.

There's a barrel that does this that's been posted in this forum in the past. Don't let it being a barrel worry you, as a barrel is just a zip of the barrel project, and if you just unzip it, you have the .mc that does the calculations.
