Basic admin...

Hi,

A spattering of unrelated administrative questions;

Is there a way to update listings from iPhones? (Seems to hide all the buttons for edit in Safari.)

Is there a way to script uploads of updates? (Eg: If I update four, related products, can I run a batch script or similar to push them up to Garmin while I do something else.)

Is there a way to manage product listings more easily? (Could get to be quite a few, after a while.)

Is there a way to delete old ids from the ERA tool? (I killed off some of my earlier attempts from the store, but they still show in ERA.)

Thanks,

G

  • Basic answer to all theses is "no".  You might be able to write your own script for updating.

Phone apps don't give access to your developer dashboard, so no way to update descriptions.

Not sure what you mean by manage product listings, but  I have about 50 apps in the store, and there's very little in common between most of them.  But in the same way, I don't update apps that often once they are stable.  I have some I don't think I've updated in a year.

  • Just browsed some of your watch faces (fun ideas, btw, might get the binary later).

You win the prize for being the first developer I’ve found with forum links in the description where the forum links have been updated so that they still work!

  • I know there are others that updated their forum links.  I just sat down and did mine right after the forum SW changed.  I still might have missed a couple...  Slight smile

  • The broken links was a definite factor in my choice not to use forum links.

It seems as if a lot of older DFs and watch faces used them, though. Was that simple pragmatism or recommended practice?

  • If I wanted to script an updater, is there any kind of api I can write it against, or is it just sniffing form fields and hardcoding something that might break at the whim of Garmin updates?

  • It was often used for things like the "how to" with app settings and a showcase thread for questions/support.

About a year back the SW for the forum changed, and while content was migrated, links broke.  That's why you'll see broken links in stuff that's been around for a while.

I tend to not use forum links that much now days, as most of my support questions/bugs come by way of the "contact developer" link for an app.

It's really just a matter of what works for you.

  • There's no standard API for that, but in all honesty, you probably don't want to do constant updates for a bunch of apps - maybe occasionally and on a case-by-case basis.

Each time you update the store, some counters get reset, so you'll drop in things like the "most popular" list, and when it comes to the ERA and crash logs, those get reset each time you update so if you update say every week, you'll miss all the crash longs from the week before..
