Publish Apps and make them private / non-searchable?

Hi, I want to publish an app in the app store and make it available only for selected users (with a download link) but that does not seem to be possible, at least according to older discussions I found here, but just wanted to double check if this has changed recently.

For me it would be very valuable to publish apps and make them "non-searchable", so that I can limit access to only selected users. My app is currently in beta state but then only I can download it. I don't want my users to side load for obvious reasons (I use settings, also my users are non-techies and will struggle with side loading) . I am making these apps as a hobby project for myself and a few selected friends for private use so not interested to make them public for everyone to download.

Best regards

Fredrik

  • This has been requested a few times, but as of yet it is still not possible.  Apps are either public or developer only beta.

  • Thanks. As I expected then. Would be a pretty nice "feature" though. Do you know how I can make a feature request to the connect IQ team?

  • Try the bug request forum.

But I'll tell, you that at the developer Summit in 2018, I was talking to AlphaMonkeyC, and showed him an app.  He asked if it was in the store, and I said "Yes, as one of my beta apps".

And even he made a comment about abut how it would be nice to find  a way to have a beta app and invite others.

I know it's on the list and has been for some time.

Maybe you could require some kind of a key that you email out, and without that key, your app doesn't run.

  • Is this still the current state of things???

I too, find it really sad/annoying that there is no way to add other garmin uses to join beta testing on an app.

One would think it should be fairly easy for Garmin to make an [invite] button on the Dev dashboard, so you can add a limited number of other users to the beta of an app via their email. If they were allowed to find/see the app in the store, the whole chain would be there ready to go....

  • Thanks for opening a bug report! I'm going to post a link to it here, because it's very easy to lose track of bug reports (the forum front page shows a link to the latest bug report, but when you go to bug reports section itself, they're ordered by number of votes, by default)

  • In bug reports, changing the search order is pretty easy, as is limiting to things based on their state.  Using the magnifying glass next to search  also helps when looking for things.

Here's another bug report about the same thing from a year ago, and it was just the first one I found with a search for "beta apps"

Thanks, I know how to do both of those things (change the sort order of bug reports and search for things in the forums), but believe it or not, clicking on a direct link is even easier. I assume that's why you posted an actual link to the bug report that you cleverly found on your own.

Since we're being super pedantic and nitpicking everything:

    - I think you mean changing the bug reports *sort* order, not "search order". My specific issue is that the sort order of the bug reports subforum is different from every other subforum. It also has its own unique set of bugs and quirks

    - You don't actually use "the magnifying glass next to search" to search for things, you type text into the Search field next to the magnifying glass. You might find that clicking on the magnifying glass itself does absolutely nothing, for example
