Connect IQ 2.0 app update

i'm confused.  The post in the News subforum says it's redesigned from the ground up, and easier for users to find our apps.

I got all excited and go to download it.  Looks exactly the same.  Same random category names, same broken ratings system.

Check the version, yep, it's 2.0.  Release notes in the apple app store says "bug fixes and new device support".

What am i missing?

Typical of Garmin. I feel like every one of their “updates” is always a step backwards. No way to filter watch faces for just new ones? What am I supposed to just scroll through what appears to be a random list of faces?

  • You can go to search, choose watch faces, and select filter "latest"

best i can tell, there is a new my device icon at the bottom where you can manage your installed apps on your device.  which possibly in intended to replace (?) the same functionality that is buried in the Connect app.  and an AutoUpdate toggle that possibly means users will automatically get our latest versions, which would be nice since some of mine are on really old versions still.

would be nice for some clarity.  should we be directing users to use this app going forward for managing their apps?  is the same functionality in the connect app slated to be removed?   still don't think i would call this redesigned from the ground up though.

This was in the old Connect IQ app as well, it was just on the top if I remember correctly.  The screen to manage the device looks to be exactly the same as in the previous version of the Connect IQ app.

I don't know a great deal about the Connect app, but I do know that after version 1 they went back and rewrote a bunch of it to use a different framework. I'm not sure if the intent was as much a 'redesign' as it was to 'replace the framework'. If it looks the same, this is probably intentional... they started from something that worked and wanted to replace the guts. If it looks the same, it seems that would be a success.

Do you find that you need to tell users what software to use to manage their apps? There are at least 5 ways to get an app onto a watch these days, and it shouldn't be up to you (the app developer) to decide for people how they should be syncing their devices.

That said, it is my understanding that the intent is to break the app management portions of the Connect app out into the ConnectIQ app.

    thanks for a response.

and yes to having to tell users how to get to the app settings thru garmin connect.  i have to do that at least once a day.  so much that i just have an email template that's a one click and send for me.
