Exiting a widget

I understand that it is deliberate that no interface is supplied to exit a widget.

However, I have an annoying use case.

When I am cycling in cold weather, and wearing thick gloves, I can still use the touch screen of my Edge 1000, but have very little fine control.

To open a widget, I can easily swipe down and across. However, to close it, swiping doesn't work; my options are to swipe back to the menu and press the thin "close" banner at the bottom of the screen, or to press the small 'X' at the bottom left of the widget screen. Both of these are tricky when wearing my thick gloves.

Another option is to press the "Start" button to stop the current activity, which jumps back to the activity, and then press it again to restart it, as I don't actually want to stop it! This is not ideal.

Therefore, I would like my widget to allow swiping up to exit. However, I have not found any way of exiting cleanly. Searching these forums suggests that this is a deliberate design decision for widgets.

So, is there absolutely no possibility of this functionality being allowed? And if so, could I suggest adding "swipe up" at the system level as a way of closing a widget for those devices where you switch between widgets by swiping left and right?

Thanks.
