AntPlus integration for steering a boat

Hi guys,

I am quite new to the whole Garmin world and right now I am trying to figure out how the whole AntPlus communication works.

We are trying to use a Garmin Marq Captain to steer a boat: start, stop, man-overboard, getting the boat information etc. Our initial understanding was that you have native Garmin Apps that should give you the possibility of doing these things out of the box. But after some reading I realize that some development of a custom CIQ app might be needed. I am though uncertain if ConnectIQ SDK with AntPlus module gives enough of integration to do the desired functionality or if we would need to build the app with custom protocols (commands data that we define and send through Ant Channels) to achieve what we want.

I would appreciate some guidance from someone who did work on something similar.

at first you need a NMEA / ant gateway on the boat to do that

Yes we have already an NMEA in place. As it would seem, I begin to understand that we need to build our own implementation for our specific case, meaning that creating custom commands which then we need to handled on the boat side.

is NMEA ANT+? my current googling skills are apparently no match for NMEA and how it can be connected to Garmin wearables

Thanks. There's GNT10 and then there's something else I think. Cos from the CIQ apps From Garmin, they have apps which 1) supports GNT10 2) supports something else (but not the GNT10).

the GNT10 is a NMEA to ANT+ transfer gateway, it will allow you to access NMEA message from an ANT+ device and/or send message from an ATN+ device and convert it.

now, in Connect IQ you need to write the ANT+ specific module which can use/talk the NMEA profil use by GNT10.

I don't know if it's public ?

vald70 yeah.. you're right. I have no idea what profile the GNT10 is using for one and for the other, "the one that does not support GNT10" in my link above, it's using what?

So.. how to get the data from the equipment to the wearable unit. hmmm..

from what I see, the GSMxxx plotter directly talk in ANT+ to the watches, but same here we don't have the profile !

vald70 by right, and I am assuming that it is ANT+ certified, then there should be a profile which we can look/see.. Then again - it could also be using some private ANT+ channels or such and then there's no chance to determine what is what.
