I forgot to press the start button at least 5 times (I am rushing out because I have only 30-45 mins). At the end of 4-10 miles walk or run I figure out that I did not record with the start feature. I can see on my Garmin 645M and Mobile app the steps, although it is not recorded as an activities. Based on the data of 6 month walking and running (with kind of the same paces over this timeframe), the watch still does not recognize if it is a run or a walk. This is a big limitation considering that it detects when I am not running or moving (move!!!) or how much I need to rest (based on historical data).
It would be nice if I could at least categorize that 1h and 15 of movement is indeed an activity. Then, it would be good if I can get into the activity and change the type so I can save the mileage in the correct category. Basically I would like to have the same opportunity I have when I am importing data from...let's say ...Runkeeper data to Garmin. I am basically missing mileage for any challenge and virtual run because I forgot to press the button and the watch does not tell me when the activity has started to confirm that I pressed correctly.
Based on the definition: The Move IQ feature automatically detects activity patterns, such as walking, running, biking, swimming, and elliptical training, for at least 10 minutes. You can view the event type and duration on your Garmin Connect timeline, but they do not appear in your activities list, snapshots, or newsfeed.
On the mobile app, I can only see two solid bars in the today steps screen (it was a 4 miles walking activity). If I go in Garmin Connect on the web I see two activities type, one of them is the walking. Why not to add the feature to properly categorize the walking or running in order to sum up with the other properly categorized activities? Lets say: I forgot to start the watch. At the end I have an activities that looks like runnning or walking. then I can go on edit mode and I select what activity it is.
Another feature would be: the "start activity" and/or "activity stop" prompts. Also emergency detected. I have prompts on the watch (for laps and stats) and I was wearing a headset but my watch decided to do "accident detection" texting my daughter and stop recording the following 3 miles. The phone was on "do not disturb when tracking" and I did not pick up the phone. The watch does not even tell me if it is paused.
I am used to have a simple basic Runkeeper app on my phone that was capable to autodetect with editing capability. Pocket track feature tracks an activities that has a prolonged movement and then I could edit and select running or walking and save it. When I pressed "start'...the app would message me via headset "activity started, activity paused, activity complete". I am not really impressed by the software feature.
I am sure, there are other people like me that get out of the house and start running right away and are not able to look at their watch while running (I run most of the time with no contact lens). Any thoughts?
Thanks
