Write to the FIT file directly

Is there a possibility to write a datafield into FIT file? As I have read; the Connect IQ platform does not allow recording new sensor data to the FIT file. But is there any opportunity that there will be possible in the future versions of Garmin Connect IQ? :D :D

Keep in mind that writing to the .fit is only 1/2 of what's needed, as when that .fit is sent to the Garmin servers, the Garmin servers have to know what to do with that data...

FIT format is HEX in ASCII: why?

Hi there,
does anyone know why FIT writes Hexadecimal in ASCII format? That's terribly inefficient. Is it just for the sake of interoperability? I can't find what motivated this design choice.

How are you viewing the .fit? When I look at one, it's binary. Maybe what you're using to view it makes you think it's ASCII text.

You are right, the FIT files are binary. My text editor turned out not to be as basic as I thought and it is displaying them in hex format.
