Fenix 5x Buttons

I'm developing a CIQ data field and need user input to trigger a function. The Fenix watch is not touch sensitive, so that won't help.

I could detect a quick double tap on the start/stop activity button, or a double tap on the lap button. But both of those will cause a (minor) impact on the recorded activity and FIT file.

Does anyone know if tapping the top left button (which simply toggles on/off the backlight) is noticeable by a CIQ data field? If so, that would be a good way to trigger a function in the data field without affecting the FIT file.

Nope. CIQ can't see the light button.

With data fields, you can only see onTap, and then only on some touch devices - maybe only edge touch devices and not watches IIRC.

Ok. Thanks. Guess I'll implement a double-tap on the start or lap button to trigger the logic. Yes, the touch screen EDGE devices work great with onTap().

With lap, you'd wind up with laps (splits) in the .fit. Start would also impact the fit file itself, and the user would see restore.save/resume, and in both cases you won't see them in a delegate. just the onTimerXYZ call backs.

Yep... I'll have to add logic to the onTimerXYZ (say, lap) interrupts to look for a 2nd callback within, say, 2 seconds. Kind of a pain, but I don't know how else to allow a user to inform a data field to do something.

I'd still consider this kind of high risk thing. Confusing to the user and the impact on other data fields.

What is the thing you are trying to adress with this? There might be a better way.
