YASW (Yet Another Slack Workspace)

I've spent the better part of today working on some SDK 3.1 things and realized that some more real-time collaboration between devs might be beneficial. So I created a Slack workspace at:

https://connect-iq.slack.com

You can join the workspace using the following link:

I know this was tried a three years ago or so, but I think that Slack didn't have the market penetration it has today and there wasn't enough CIQ devs. But we might be at the point now that there are enough developers to make this work -- we'll never know if we don't try. And at the very least, it's a more real-time was for all of the various Developer Summit attendees to keep in touch without overloading the forums with idle discussion.

And for those not familiar with Slack, check out their website to see all of the real-time collaboration greatness: https://slack.com/

  • I can't agree more that we need a better tool here, but before we plunge too deeply, as I am not at all familiar with Slack, could you take a few minutes to provide some details of the features we will be getting specifically for CIQ developers?

And how would you respond to the issue of fragmenting the discussion space?

  • Good point; sorry, I assumed that basically *everyone* uses or has used Slack. I've updated the original post to include a link to Slack's main page. But Slack is an amazing tool for collaboration in a more real-time way. It's hard to explain it's usefulness if you've not used Slack.

As for fragmenting potential solutions that come up over Slack, the problem already exists: we have people looking for answers in these forums and StackOverflow, we have the Developer Summit, I've had and solved issues via email and private message, etc. And this is not unique to CIQ, this problem exists everywhere for everything else.

  • The slack workspace is dead. According to this post https://forums.garmin.com/developer/connect-iq/f/discussion/4227/irc-or-discord-discussion there's still a discord channel active with few developers on it "ConnectIQ-Unofficial" https://discord.gg/2SwcgtZ

For the most effective work, the organization of the workspace is very important. Programmers, by the way, are one of the most creative people in the modern world and they appreciate the working atmosphere like no one else. My friend is a web developer and in addition to remuneration and an interesting intellectual task in her work, she is interested in the level of comfort in the office. They have a small company and therefore they prefer to work in a coworking space. All this is convenient and contributes to the creation of a creative atmosphere. They were advised recently one in her area osdoro.com
