Watchface Developer questions

Hi y'all,

I've got two questions I want resolved to create better watchfaces so thanks if you would like to answer them.

1. There is an uploaded watchface (but can't recall which one) that lets users choose some options through Garmin Express or Garmin Connect
So how do I create a user choice in a watchface like say : change color of face, second timezone instead of utc time,...

2. When using a bitmap without dithering, the colors are often gone. Did anyone try to include a color palette to get the colors back ? I've tried the commands from the guide but the compiler doesn't even accept them.

According to the guide : http://developer.garmin.com/connect-iq/programmers-guide/resource-compiler/
While each device has a unique palette, the developer can specify a palette to use for an image. The resource compiler will map the colors that are defined in the developer’s palette to the closest match in the device palette and use only those colors. A palette can be defined using the following syntax:

<resources>
<bitmap id="bitmap_id" filename="path/for/image">
<palette>
<color>FF0000</color>
<color>FFFFFF</color>
<color>0000FF</color>
</palette>
</bitmap>
</resources>

Thank you for helping.

    To answer your first question: this is new functionality in CIQ 1.2. There's a pretty detailed explanation in the programmer's guide. In the Resource compiler section you'll find a whole chapter about app settings. That's what you need.

    If you want to see it work with a watchface in GE or GCM, you can try my Flags Of Europe watch face or Petr.Koula's ActiFace. They both use this feature.
  • Also, with the release 1.2.1 SDK (and the new 1.2.1 Eclipse Plugin), in Eclipse, if you do a "new>project>CIQ Project", there is an option for a new watchface project, and if you select "simple with settings", you get a simple watchface with settings for background and foreground color, and 12/24 time, and you can they experiment with user settings in the simulator.

    Hi, I was going to PM you but I saw this message thread. I am really liking the Panerai Luminor GMT watch face you developed and would love to be able to set the secondary time zone to my home time zone for when I am traveling overseas. Also, would love to see a Tag Heuer Calibre 8 GMT watchface (attached a jpg of it) :) This is a great watchface for dual times.

    Watch face request

    Not sure if this belongs here but I will ask anyway.

    Firstly, great work. I usually run one of your watch faces and change it daily or every few days.
    Here is a list of some watch faces I would like to see:

    and one of these, black background and a light version if possible with smaller dials for battery%, step% and a alarm time perhaps:

  • Hi, I looked for the Panerai Luminor GMT watchface and couldn't find it. Has it been removed? If not can someone provide a link?
    Thanks,
