Could 'widget' pushView to notify the user when it got some new messages?

I'm trying to create a widget that listen for message from a phone app.
When some events occur, phone notify widget (on the watch) to display notification.

Seems like widget will be stopped when we left the widget screen.
Do I need to implement this as a watch face?
  • Unfortunately, this kind of thing isn't yet supported in Connect IQ. A widget must be running to handle communications, and a watch face can't do communications (watch faces are meant to be very low power, and communications uses quite a

It's on the roadmap, however, so the ability to receive notifications in this way will definitely be available in a future SDK release.

    Brandon,
is there a place where roadmap could be seen? It would be nice to know what to expect, because it might save lot of time to developers and steer them in right direction. CIQ platform is still very limited and we have no idea how far and in which direction are you intended to go with it. What is certain to come, what is certain never to come and what is in maybe box.
  • I understand what you're saying, but we don't publish our road map publicly. There is a related post that gives a general overview of our approach, here:

    https://forums.garmin.com/showthread.php?191355-Connect-IQ-versions&p=486977#post486977

I think part of the reason we don't spell things out is because things can and do change as we move forward, and we don't want to set false expectations. I can say that we're actively working to improve things like communications (e.g. makeJsonRequest), expand the available sensor data, and provide more flexibility in design and layout.

One of my tasks is to comb through the forum posts and make sure any feature requests are recorded and added to our backlog for consideration. We pay attention to how Connect IQ is being used (some developers have come up with some cool apps that do things we hadn't ever considered) and try to expand features to meet the needs we see. So while we have a plan in place for what we intend to release over the next year, we're regularly reviewing and adjusting to try to include what the developer community asks for in a way that doesn't stray from the core vision for Connect IQ.

Thanks for link. I totally understand your reasons to not reveal details, but I'm sure you also understand my reasons for asking. ;)
Is there any info on oncoming 2.0, like release date and features? I guess you must know by now what will be inside, so some info could be disclosed.

I see some users here having informations which I can't find anywhere (like existance of 2.0), is there any other place I should be watching?

There is this that talks about how things get numbered, and a very general schedule (new major version every year, for example), etc..

  • The link Jim provided is probably the best reference for what's coming next. I can confirm that there's a 1.2.0 coming and that the late September time frame mentioned on the developer blog is still fairly accurate. We will also eventually have a 2.0.0, but I don't have anything I can share about that yet. :)
