IQ splash screen – is it really necessary?

What a waste of time and space to have to go through the IQ splash screen every time one starts up an app. – Especially when the app is something that you only want to glance at for a few moments such as Big Weather.

Isn't there any way to disable this frustrating and repetitive feature.

    BigWeather isn't an app, it's a widget.

I could stop the 'splash' screen but it's there to show that something is a actually happening whilst the widget does it's start up stuff, i.e. getting the weather data. It could just show a blank screeen for a few seconds whilst it does that but it made more sense to me to show something a bit more useful.
  • Sorry - got my techie terms mixed up.

I didn't realise that it was a space-filler as well. In that case I can see it serves a purpose. Maybe you should use it to display your own logo. After all you're the author.

By the way, would it be possible to have alternative screen colours? For my eyes, the white on the pale blue background is a bit difficult.

It should show my own logo! And does on my 920, could you please take a pic and post it to me. What watch are you using?
  • Can't do a pic just now. But it simply shows an IQ logo - same as the others. The watch is a VA.
It says Big Weather on the information screen alongside the initial weather info page - but the splashscreen is IQ
  • On the vivoactive, all CIQ widgets widgets show the "IQ" icon for a few seconds before the widget actually runs. Today (1.1.4) there is no way to change that, but using the launcher Icon and/or appname has been suggest a number of times
  • So it;s only shown on the VA, and if so what size should I make my own?
  • I really can't advise you on sizes - I suppose you mean pixels - but unless Garmin has some rules in place then I don't see why you shouldn't put your own logo and take full credit for the widget.

Could you post a picture of your logo
Any comment on my screen colours question?
  • Sorry the size question was directed to Jim not you ;-)

I will change the logo in next version.

When Garmin implement the option to allow us developers to configure apps/widget/watchfaces from the phone (coming soon) then I'll add colour options.
  • Hang on, I may have got it wrong.

There is an IQ splashscreen - and then, what I thought was the weather I now see is a standard Big Weather splashscreen with a cloud and "loading" at the bottom.

Maybe that is your logo. In that case, do we really need the IQ splashscreen?

Right now, you can't change specify the icon, and I've never seen a size defined for the "widget icon", only for the "app icon" (it's 61x43 for va apps)
