Pace From Footpod

Connect IQ Team:

Assuming the thread is correct: https://forums.garmin.com/showthread.php?301315-Petition-to-allow-foot-pod-pace-readings-while-using-GPS&p=711637#post711637

Will the Connect IQ team be working with them to make sure the developers can have access to this data for data fields? This is something I am particularly interested and I would guess others would also be who have developed fields that include pace information.

Right now, ConnectIQ only provides the default system speed in the APIs that provide speed. If a change is made to the Fenix to add a setting or other method of setting the speed source to the Footpod, then the value ConnectIQ is providing should change as well.

Eventually we might be able to expand the ConnectIQ APIs to provide raw data from individual speed sources. This would allow ConnectIQ to see different speed sources regardless of the device configuration.

It is already possible for ConnectIQ to connect directly to a Footpod using the Generic ANT API. This would allow for a ConnectIQ app to access Footpod speed data, in addition to the default system speed found in the other modules.

Well, at this point it is rumor till it happens but it would be nice given the totally erratic pace information coming out of the F3 at this point. The scenario of configuring the device with a preferred or default speed source would be the best possible case but without an actual implementation to reference it would be a guess for me at this point. You seem to indicate that the speed column would also update with this change but it wasn't clear to me since the default data fields don't use Connect IQ correct (?) and might be generating it in a way un-available to us if the speed value continues to be driven by GPS.

I have seen these in the forum but I don't really wish to create a new application so I would be limited to any data fields they provide or what could be coded using Connect IQ for data fields.

Thanks for the information, I guess we will just have to wait and see.

Yeah, I don't know what the device team is doing with the feedback in that thread, but ConnectIQ reads speed from the same internal API that would be used to display it in data fields. If something is changed to provide a better speed value on the device, ConnectIQ will see the same change in the speed values it provides.
