connect IQ app that counts a minute

I am a nursing student and need an app that counnts a whole minute when taking vital signs.

Have tried those watchfaces with second hands but they disappear after a few seconds.

Using a stopwatch seems unnatural, but it could work.

We are required to wear a watch with a second hand... too old fashioned if you ask me. So I am just here looking for alternatives.

Thanks!

Not possible unless you can find a developer who will write you a watchface that runs the onUpdate every second, regardless of low power mode.
But then the battery won't last long.

I think this is one example of where Garmin watches aren't a good fit for the use case you described.
  • i take it you can't use the built in stopwatch? As in not allowed to? (To press as one buttns to get to stopwatch and press to start it?)
  • Sounds like a widget which just counts down from 59 to zero is what you want. This should not be too hard to create for an app developer.
  • At least on the vivoactive (and I believe it's so on other devices), the default (system) watchface displays seconds all the time. Could you just use that while working?

On the va, a widget without comm permissions is only displayed for about 10 seconds. Widgets on other devices may last a minute. If this were done as an app, it could just display hh:mm:ss the whole time it's running. (like a watchface that's never in low-power mode.)
  • I did not know that Jim. I have a fenix3 and just checked with an app I am developing and it stayed on the screen for 2 minutes (not 1 as you mention) which I knew would be enough for a 1 minute countdown. I was not aware other watches widgets did not last so long. 10 seconds is way too short IMHO for most widgets I would want to look at.

So, yes, it would have to be an app rather than a widget on devices where widgets do not last long enough. The beauty of a widget (at least on the fenix) is that it would be a single button press away if the last widget in the list. I envisaged pressing the up button which could start immediately counting down from 59 with a large number font and vribating/beeping once it got to zero.
