Bold fonts

I've just received my Fenix 3 and have used it for only a couple of runs. Due to the ongoing saga of GPS accuracy, I've been wearing it alongside my Forerunner 220. What has really struck me is the different fonts used. On the 220, numbers in activity fields look larger and bolder - on the fenix they are hard to catch at a glance and feel like they could do with being beefed up a little.
I have seen some ConnectIQ data fields that actually display multiple fields in a bolder type. However, the contents aren't exactly what I am used to running with and they cant be configured.
Would it be possible for any clever ConnectIQ developer to re-create all of the major fields as single IQ fields but using a larger bold font ? This way they can be individually selected as per the normal fields in the watch.
Ideally Garmin would enable config in the watch to allow the user to select a bold font - but I cant see this happening.
  • if ur referring to the datafield.
No configurations currently possible. Maybe in next release of CIQ SDK so user selectable fields is a pipe dream for now unless u provide incentive for developer to create one specifically for ur purpose.

Having said that, between the F3, Epix and 920 and even the VA, ALL of them uses varying forms of fonts.
And there is also a tradeoff between legibility and space contraints.

For eg: u can have bug bold customs fonts, but to fit only 2 field layout would need a slightly smaller one than the 4fields layout. Then u also have to content with the labels (Speed / Distance etc labels). With the labels it would be nicer and more intuitive (for me) but maybe u will say that u don't need to know what the fields are an sacrifice the labels for a larger font.

There is always a middle ground for the choices that are made and those choices are made to ensure that 80% of users are good with it.

So... Where does that leave you?

    1) play with the SDK
    2) get someone to code it for u
    3) live with the current situation.

For eg: for me, I prefer to NOT flip data screens and have all my frequently used fields in 1 screen. But that means a smaller font. So, I made the choice for more fields vs bigger fonts.

    My 2 cents. :-p
  • I thought that might be the answer... :(
Thanks for the well considered reply.
