Widget not working on french Vivoactives

Hello,

A French user reported to me that they were unable to use my widget on their Vivoactive. The Garmin France support team mentioned that it may be due to some software being in beta version?

I am wondering if there is something on my end that is preventing compatibility. I know that my widget is listed as supporting English only. Would that cause the widget not to work as expected when loaded on another region's vivoactive?

My app can be found here: https://apps.garmin.com/en-US/apps/dc448aa9-0882-4abb-8637-7107695cc1f4

Thank you for your time.

Braden
  • Hi Braden,

I did a quick test of your widget on a vivoactive set to use French as the language, and the app worked fine. I'd have to use it over the long term to be sure there aren't any issues that aren't readily apparent, but I don't know of anything that would prevent someone from using your app due to the language. The worst case is that an individual would only see English in your app, regardless of the system language.

The only thing that I can think of, which we can't verify without more information from the user, is that they were using some earlier firmware release that doesn't support the Connect IQ 1.1.3 SDK. In that case, the user just needs to update their firmware, which they should probably do anyway.

Thanks for getting back to me Brandon!

I'll suggest updating the firmware. Is there a notion of region firmware updates in which places like France would not have access to Connect IQ 1.1.3 currently?
  • There are two main "flavors" of firmware on most devices: worldwide, which covers everywhere but Asia, and APAC, which covers Asia. APAC is primarily China, Taiwan, Japan, and Thailand. Within the APAC builds there are some small variants. For example, the Chinese and Taiwanese firmware versions are slightly different. APAC firmware also lags behind worldwide releases by a few versions, so there are sometimes CIQ features not yet supported on APAC devices even if they are fully up to date.

France uses the worldwide version, just like we use here in the states, so there should not be any concerns about them not having access to 1.1.3 unless a user's device simply isn't up to date.
