How is a Data Field monetized?

mentions using web services for subscriptions and in-app payments, or selling ANT+ hardware. However that would require Communications permissions for web services so can only applies to apps and widgets, Sensor permissions for hardware devices which apply only to apps, widgets and watch faces.

So what is the suggested way to monetize a Data Field, given that charging in the Connect IQ Store is not supported?

In the long term, you probably could do something like "limited features" unless the Object Store contained a "key" to unlock other stuff, where that key is based on the device serial number. If you want the extra features, go to a website, pay your fee, enter your serial number and then use GCM/GE to enter the resulting key into the Object Store. No comm to the internet from CIQ needed this way

And long term - the ability for user to configure the Object Store should be out at the end of Sept, and I know the option in CIQ to get the serial number has been mentioned, but not sure when that will come out. (using the serial number as a seed would prevent someone from getting a key and sharing it with a bunch of people...)
