Possible watch crash on Fenix 3 due to widget

Hi all

I am currently developing a widget which I have been testing on my Fenix 3. The widget and the watch work fine. However since I have installed it I have noticed that once a day the watch crashes to the Garmin screen and resets the step counter. This is when the widget is not being used.

I am trying to understand if this is a coincidence (the fenix 3 is <ahem> known for its bugs) or that somehow the widget is causing some type of bug (memory leak?) that even though it is not being used somehow affects the watch itself.

So two questions:
1) When a widget is not being used I am correct that it is unloaded from memory and thus should not have an effect on the watch itself?
2) If the above is not true how is there a way of getting a crash dump when the watch resets?

Thanks

Spencer
  • It is my understanding that the widget is unloaded, but I could be wrong. Only the Garmin guys can really answer that.

I believe you should find an ERR_LOG.TXT on the device in the case of a device crash. It probably won't be useful to you, but it would be useful to the Garmin guys.
  • If the widget is not currently being run, then the odds are that it's not the cause of the reboot. As Travis mentioned, if you could send the ERR_LOG.TXT from the root folder of the watch to [email protected] we'll be happy to track down the cause of the reboot.
