Use keys in simulator and code

Hi,

I am really new in the Garmin community and in developing too.

I currently try to understand the example apps and code my own watch app.

There are a few issues I got don't find in the FAQ.

1.) How can I tell a certain key on the watch (fenix 3) to have a specific function in the code? Is there an variable in the API or so?
2.) How can I simulate pressed keys in the Eclipse CIQ simulator?

1) the keys are in the API. http://developer.garmin.com/downloads/connect-iq/monkey-c/doc/Toybox/WatchUi.html you can also refer to the samples in the SDK. (or try GitHub)
2) literally press the buttons. (yeah.. i asked this question too)

So you mean just in the simulator click on the buttons does the job? :D

Got it, thanks a lot :)

Problem was that the buttons weren't defined in the code so they were not working ;)

I thought they simulate like Xcode where I can jump through the interface ;)

You need to have code to handle the buttons, such as:

class CrumbsDelegate extends Ui.BehaviorDelegate {

    

    function onMenu() {

		}



        function onKey(evt) {

    	    if(evt.getKey()==Ui.KEY_ENTER) {

            }

        }

}

I am quite new to this and want to code the app I mentioned here:

Unfortunately I am no dev at all and need to learn this from scratch :)

Does anyone has a good tutorial to recommend or tip where to start (I know in the SDK and the examples and the api docs but maybe there is a cool tutorial out there ;) ) ?

Look at some of the examples - they'll show you how to use inputDelagate and things like a numberPicker (that you'll probably need to enter a time)
