Epix vs. simulator fonts

Hi CIQ team, is it possible that FONT_NUMBER_THAI_HOT in simulator is smaller (or thinner) than the font on device itself? I don't have Epix so far, but some new Epix users reported overlapping of Time field to the "today stats" on ActiFace when hour is two-digits. But I'm not able to simulate it in the simulator. As a quick workaround I added custom font for Epix, but I'd like to use native font if it'll be possible. Thank you for help..
  • I recently worked on some documentation of the available fonts and glyphs on all four devices, and there should not be a difference in the font *sizes* between the simulator and the Epix for any of the various font sizes, number or otherwise. I did not do a screen to screen comparison between the device and the simulator (yet), so it's possible that there are some rendering differences. I know of at least one instance where the 920 appears to use a slightly smaller kerning value than the vivoactive with a custom font, and that's under investigation.

I'll do some direct comparison between the device and the simulator, but I may not be able to get to it until next week.

Sorry if it seems I keep hijacking your threads KOULIK ;)

While we're on the topic of fonts. Are you aware that the Vivoactive FONT_NUMBER_MILD is different on the device than it is in the simulator? Although I was actually calling it by number (5), so could it be that the ENUM value is not correctly reported in the manual.

That's OK, your comments are welcomed :)
  • Shark - it's wrong if you use the enum too. Infact a couple of the FONT_NUMBER_* are a bit off on the va.
  • I'll look at the vivoactive fonts, too. The device and the sim *should* be using all the same font sizes from what I've just looked at. Thanks for the report!
  • The differences between the epix fonts on the device and the sim have been fixed and should be available in the next release.
  • On the Epix device, there is no difference between fonts : FONT_XTINY, FONT_TINY and FONT_SMALL.
All are displayed with the same height of 20 px.
This is quite annoying, so thank you for the correction.

These are all also the same (or seem to be) on a vivoactive itself. It could be anything smaller than "small" would be next to impossible for many people to read.
  • In the 1.1.2 SDK release, we've documented all of the font sizes associated with each of the font constants on each device in Appendix B of the User Experience Guide. Prior to 1.1.2, there were some font inconsistencies between the simulator and the devices, so you should see some changes (hopefully for the better) in this latest release.

We've also listed all of the available characters for each letter and number font so you'll know what you can use and what you can't. There are some discrepancies between the available glyphs in some of the font sizes, even on the same device, but we plan to do what we can to eliminate those differences in the future.
  • Brandon - I notice for the numbers fonts on the vivoactive there is the "degree" symbol. What is the ascii value for that? if I try 248, I get the symbol in the editor , but in the simulator, just a box....

    "78°" = 78(box)
