CIQ apps update issue

Hi,

A lot of users of my watchface (ActiFace) users (especially those with fr920xt and fw 3.30) has experienced issue with update to the new version of watchface. It changed to the default watchface after update and ActiFace was removed from device. IQ store still says that ActiFace is already installed, so they cannot do anything. It seems that there is workaround, to download another watchface, switch to it and then it can be ActiFace selected again and works. Majority of users updated without issues. Has anybody experienced something similar? Guys from CIQ team, is it possible that there is a bug in update system or 920xt firmware?

Thanks

Yeah. I've seen and heard of it happening. I used GE to remove the offending software, then placed it back on and it updated. I can't remember if I had to unplug the device in between, but I think not.

I just had Garmin Express wipe out all my ConnectIQ apps (faces, widgets and fields) when trying to update a widget. Personally I don't think it is linked to a particular app, but rather a bug in GE.

In my instance I had a pending firmware update (BLE/ANT 2.90), and I suspect that may have had something to to with it.
  • I believe that this issue may have already been addressed in the latest update to Garmin Express, 4.0.20.0. I'm going to do some follow up on this to make sure the fix made it into this version. I know that we already identified the problem, but I don't have full visibility into whether that fix was included in this last release. Try clicking on the Settings button in Express (looks like a little gear), then check for updates if you're not already on the latest version, and see if that addresses the issue.
  • I just had this happen this morning using GE 4.0.20.0
  • So much for that idea. I'll see what else I can find out.
  • Okay, the Garmin Express guys were able to reproduce this:

...when I installed Actiface red, it removed Actiface blue from the watch. Luckily GE did recognize that blue was removed and allowed me to re-install it. Correction! I installed the blue again, and it removed all my watch faces from the device.

We still haven't narrowed down whether this is related to specific apps or affects all apps. I also talked with the FR920XT SQ team, and none of them have received reports from the field of this happening on the 920. Perhaps this is limited to a few apps or it only occurs on occasion. Regardless, we'll keep working to find the root cause.

Well, I just synced my Fenix with the latest version of GE. I updated Battery Gauge Widget. Also present on the watch was the watch face Simplicity: Roman, and three side loaded data fields. All apps developed by myself, and they have behaved correctly without crashing for weeks.

I kept an eye on the GARMIN/APPS folder, and everything was present until I 'Safely Removed Hardware' (I'm on Windows 7). But as soon as the Fenix was removed from the USB cable, all Connect IQ apps were gone. The same thing happened a few days ago, on an earlier version of Garmin Express.

I reconnected the watch, and re-added all the lost apps. Removed the watch, and everything is fine. The difference is that on the second try the Battery Gauge widget wasn't present on the watch, so it was reinstalled and not updated. This makes me suspect the error is connected to the updating of existings apps.
  • Both ActiFace versions have the same application name "ActiFace". So user can't install blue and red version at the same time. It's on purpose because I'd like to replace 2 versions by single configurable one in the future when it becomes available. Maybe this is little challenging for Garmin Express.
  • @KOULIK: I figured that was the case, but apps shouldn't be removed when attempting to install. :)
  • They shouldn't :) I meant if it is possible that this case makes conditions for the bug in GE. But I don't think so after Torstein comment..
