How does one install a beta app?

Now that the developer dashboard and Garmin Express no longer support installing apps so we must use the Connect IQ app (phone or device), how does one install an uploaded Beta app?

Seems we're forced to side load apps for testing but that disables settings changes via the Connect IQ phone app. For my testing, this is VERY limiting.

The workaround in the bug report is:

1. Given the developer URL for a beta apps, such as:

https://apps-developer.garmin.com/apps/afdf891c-66ba-40c4-b24c-a56b5caa1747

2. Remove the "-developer":…

Note that I assumed we could email the beta app link from the dashboard to ourselves and open the link from the phone. But that gives the error "There was a problem fetching the app details. Try again".

It doesn't trigger the app on my Pixel, I checked the apps settings and apps.garmin.com is applied to the app. So I'm afraid the work around is just not working for me.

-edit: it does work when I send the link by email to myself and open it from there.
