When you download a watch Face from IQ, bizarrly,a confirmation appears on the watch that has a large red H character in a serif font. I could understand therev being an IQ icon or a Garmin icon, but what does the Red serif H mean?
The red is not part of the Garmin identity, the serif font is not part of the Garmin identity and I have no idea what the H stands for.
Can anyone explain this?

As others said, the icon that you see in the installation confirmation / notification is indeed the app launcher icon, which is optionally customized by the app dev. The default launcher icon is the blue IQ logo.
The purpose of this icon is to visually identify the app, similar to the icon for an app you install on your phone or computer.
(Here when I say "app," I mean any kind of content that can be downloaded from the CIQ store, including Apps, Watch Faces, Music (Providers), and Data Fields. Yes, I know it's confusing that "app" can mean any CIQ content, and it can also mean a specific kind of CIQ app, but what are you gonna do?)
For Connect IQ Watch Faces, devs usually don't bother to customize the app icon, as it's rarely seen. (The installation notification is a rare example of where this icon is seen for watch faces.) So for *most* watchfaces, you might expect to see the blue IQ logo in the installation notification. And this is true for a couple of random watchfaces I tried.
For Connect IQ Apps, devs usually do customize the app icon, as it's seen prominently in the activity/app list, next to the app name.
Having said all of that, I have a suspicion that the watchfaces you are downloading are generated by an online tool called watchfacebuilder, based on this post:

I have a WFB watchface I made installed and active. I used the on-watch Connect IQ Store a few times, and removed a different watchface.
I have multiple "layer object" graphics in my watchface, generated by selecting stock SVG ones in the builder. One I had (colored in cyan and with visibility "always") was missing, and roughly in its place was a large letter "H" in red. I tried multiple actions to dismiss and restart my watchface and this kept rendering the same way.
Obviously it's not exactly the same thing you're describing, but the mention of the red H is very suspicious.
Also, note what the H looks like in the logo / header of the watchfacebuilder page:
I tried to test this theory by:
- selecting a random watchface from https://garmin.watchfacebuilder.com/
- downloading the PRG
- manually copying the PRG to my FR955 watch ("sideloading")
This worked (the watchface was installed to my FR955).
Then I opened the Connect IQ store app on my watch and selected the Installed (apps) category. This shows all CIQ apps on my watch, with names and launcher icons.
The watchface I just sideloaded has a red H as its icon:
