Upload watch face to IQ OK and device watch face is updated but mobile IQ App Settings not updated

I am seeing this behaviour regularly and can't find a way to sync both the latest watch face (wf) with the latest IOS App WF Settings. So if I use the IQ Upload to upload a new IQ wf version, then the wf updates fine on the device (EPix 2), but any changes made in the wf settings are not always synced in the IOS IQ APP Settings. This looks like the IQ App doesn't sync with IQ after an upload.

Is there a way to force a sync? I am using Garmin Express to "Download" the new version from IQ, which appears to work fine for the wf, but any changes made to Settings may not get synced until later.  I have seen that tha IQ App would sync either straight away, some hours later or even the next day.  This make development very frustrating where there is changes to a Setting.

PS I am using WatchField Builder which outputs the .iq file to an Epix 2.

  • Interestingly, I went to the trouble of cloning the wf to see if this fixed the issue, uploaded to IQ but now a red warning message appears stating that "Sorry, the app wasn’t sent to your device because we’re having trouble communicating with our servers. Please try again later."

It uses the word App so does that mean the IQ App updates or the wf to device?  No idea but stuck.  It doesnt send to the device via Garmin Express via cable, so I assume it means the server to send to the IQ App to.  Why not send it to the device via cable anyway?

  • How long did you wait and try again?  See today's post in "News & Announcements" as it sounds like they could be changing things in the store right now.  Do you request payments and if so, are you verified?

Been waiting about 1 hour.  Not yet - waiting for approval.  Just trying to final test a beta version at this point but had issues for last 12 hours with IQ App not being updated to last IQ update.

I just saw the announcement but this should not affect beta versions or should it? I got my confirmation 12 hours ago that be verification wwould take up to 2 business days to complete.  The announcement now says up to 3 days!

Either way beta versions should not be affected IMO.

  • When you update an app, there's an approval process for the update, but it's usually only an hour or so.  Maybe it's taking longer due to the other changes happening

  • Over the last week, until 1 hour ago, I have probably uploaded about 30+ beta updates and they have all been available for Garmin Express download instantly.

But the red message says "we’re having trouble communicating with our servers. Please try again later."

  • 1. Is there any chance you can test it also on android?

    2. I'm not familiar with iOS, but I'd try to do what on android is to clear the app's cache. If that's not possible, then just delete and reinstall Connect IQ.

  • The issue is happening on a Mac computer.  I develop on a Mac, export in iq format to my logged in https://apps.garmin.com/apps/ page.  I can upload OK but can't then download from https://apps.garmin.com/apps/ on the Mac.

Just tried agin and no luck. No update from the IOS IQ App.  Also noticed that the IOS IQ App page for a previous workinh one of my wf's is now "not found".

  • Just checked my apps and all my free ones are available.  However my 2 Beta faces have a message saying "Pending Scan" whatever this means.  So when Garmin says that "Sorry, the app wasn’t sent to your device because we’re having trouble communicating with our servers. Please try again later." they really mean they have stopped the download because of the "pending scan" thing.

They should indeed be sorry after claiming there is a problem with the servers when the real issue is that they have implemented some weird clamp down on Merchant developers trying to develop products for Garmins store.

  • I don't understand the problem. Originally you posted about app settings, now you say that the freshly uploaded version of the beta apps is not visible in the mobile app.

The latter is a known issue. Sometimes there's really a problem for a few days, and then they fix it. But usually it's just the same old bug somewhere. The workaround that I am using is that if the uploaded app version isn't downloadable within a few minutes, then I build a new version and upload it. Usually this 2nd upload kicks the system and either it or at least the previous version gets downloaded to my watch within a minute

  • Hi, Yes your example was and still is my main issue.  Disappointing to hear that that this was a known recurring issue. I have tried building an additional version to see if this triggers an App refresh and it has coincided with the App updating on occasions. It doesn't work reliably enough though to keep doing that.

However, my situation is further compounded because it appears Garmin haven shut down access to beta wf's for the period that they verify Merchant status which is my situation.  Why they do this is utterly beyond me, but that's whats happening.

There sure are a lot of variable sized hoops to jump through on this journey.
