installing your own app for free (garmin monetization)

Last year I was able to install my own monetized app without paying for it.

I uninstalled the app, but now to reinstall it I'm being asked to pay.

Is this the expected behavior here? Or should I be able to install my app (under the same garmin profile) to my account for free?

I recognize that I can request promotional codes; and I recognize that I can side load the app.

  • Ok I have official answer from ConnectIQAppAdmin, pasting below:

Am I supposed to be able to download my own app for free? Last year that seemed to be the case, but now when I go to the Connect IQ store with the same account as my app developer account, it doesn't let me download the app without paying.

    > Ultimately, we do have a plan to allow developers to download and install their own monetized apps, but at the moment, our system does not have provision for this. You may request a small number of discount codes for testing by contacting us at this address, which will allow you to purchase your app at 100% discount.

  • It’s not ideal, but you could also release a clone of your app as a beta, in which case it would only be available to you.

  • yes good point I forgot to mention that I already have this setup hah; so yes I have the identical functionality on my watch for free via the beta app. I was interested in seeing how the connectiq store behaves when updates get pushed out after having a paid app. Now with the official answers I have a little more clarity there and don't necessarily need to see myself anymore.
