Watchface rejected - no clue as to why. Any advice?

Hello,

I spent a good deal of time to make a watchface. It works perfectly. I submitted the watchface and it got rejected without any information. I read through all FAQ and rejection wiki. My guess was rejection for brand guidelines. I had used the blue delta above an inserted Garmin logo. Having read the branding guidelines it said that the blue delta was for business only and only to be used by Garmin. However white and black was fine. Nevertheless, watchface rejected again. Now logo completely removed but still rejected. It must be something else but without ANY information it is kind of hard to understand. Why is this. I thought Garmin wanted users to develop for the greater good of the whole Garmin user community?!

Any help on this matter would be highly appreciated.

This is what the watchface shows (could there be a hint in there somewhere?)

It is exaclt the text I submitted together with the IQ-file

Below is a description of what this watch face shows and how touch works.
NB! Values shown on picture are random generated by watch face builder. They will be correct once watch face is installed on watch.

Left of Garmin logo is current moon phase.
Below Garmin logo are three small "hidden" icons (ringing clock, over crossed bell and a music note) that each will be present in yellow if the watch has set any of those settings to on. The settings are Ringing clock=vibration on/off, Over crossed bell=do not disturb on/off and Music note=touch and button tones on/off.
Right of Garmin logo is current heading vs tru north presented in degrees e.g. 0 is north, 90 is east, 180 is south and 270 is west). It will update in real-time as soon as any gps activity is active e.g. "Walk", "Run" etc.
Top left is actual windspeed in meter per second at your present location.
Clock icon turns red if an alarm is set.
Bluetooth icon turns blue if ANY BT connection is made, e.g. headphones.
Mobile phone icon turns blue if a phone is connected through Bluetooth.
Message icon turns red if there are any unread notifications (based on what notification settings you have set in Garmin Connect App). Click on icon to go to Garmin message widget.
Sun icon shows time for sunset at your present location. Press icon to go to Garmin Sunrise/Sunset widget.
Steps icon shows steps completed current day in real-time. Press icon to go to Garmin steps widget.
Time is shown at present location in 24h format. If you press on the time numbers it will open Garmin Calendar widget.
Date is presented with Name of Day, Month, Date and ISO week number.
Heart icon shows current heartbeat in real-time. Click icon to go to Garmin Heart widget.
Intensity bar is showing green for weekly accumulated intensity minutes for current week (week is counted Mon-Sun, hardcoded by Garmin). Red color is showing how many minutes of your weekly total that constitutes of vigorous intensity (A Garmin definition). The left number shows actual total minutes done in case you surpass your goal which is the last number to the right. The number furthest to the right is showing your set goal if intensity minutes per week. You set this goal on the watch or in the Garmin Connect App (the number on the watch will be updated automatically).
Bottom bar is your current and daily body battery value. Max is 100% and it will decrease during the day pending what you do. The number left of 100% mark is actual body battery presented as a number. Body Battery is defined by Garmin (e.g. sleep type, sleep hours etc.).
Battery icon is dynamic and segments will be removed as battery level goes down. The figure below battery icon is remaining battery estimated in days (estimation is done by Garmin watch internal variable). This is changeable to a number in percent (using Garmin Express). If you have a battery complication installed, it will be shown if you press battery icon.
Bottom left icon shows current weather at present location. Press icon to go to Garmin weather widget for more information.
Bottom right number shows current temperature in Celsius at present location.
The white arc on the bottom shows your daily accumulated steps vs your daily average goal of steps to be made. The ARC will turn green when the number of steps exceeds the daily steps goal (goal is defined by you (set in Connect app) or by Garmin calculating your average per week (setting in Connect app).

  • If you used the name, logo, tm of a popular non Garmin watch, you might be accepted, but it would get taken down as soon as Garmin got a complaint from the tm/copyright holder.  This has happened in the past, including things that just had M Mouse.

I'm sure Garmin doesn't want 3rd party apps with Garmin logos, etc, which might imply to users that it was written by Garmin when it wasn't.  That's why you were rejected.

  • Thank you for replying. But you did not read my post.

I have no logo. Started with original "Garmin" logo but removed it. Still rejected.

  • Anything still there which might tie it to Garmin?

What does the manifest.xml look like in the .iq file you submitted?

Are you using the same app id as the rejected app?

  • I assume it's this, except without the Garmin logo?

    https://garmin.watchfacebuilder.com/watchface/677d166a29fb0/

Does it still have the "epix Pro" text?

Do you have a screenshot of the exact watchface that you actually uploaded to the store?

  • Hi,
I created a new app id. Not sure what you are looking for with reference to the manifest.

  • Hi,
Yes, it is exactly as the one above but without epix pro and garmin logo. However there are massive amount of watchfaces with Garmin logo and other brands available on IQ store. This is one example. It must be something else?!https://services.garmin.com/appsLibraryExternalServices/api/icons/678d538c-6744-4a93-a19f-858263b28587

  • Not nicest solution but I would just upload v0.1 without these kind of logos that could cause an issue. Once it's approved you van upload v0.2 and it will be not checked by a human IMHO.

  • Sounds like Garmin finally started showing some sense when approving copycat watchfaces.

Rips are gray area material to put it mildly and they really don't belong to the store even if they re-implement watch faces for models not supported by the originals.

  • Dumb q but is this actually a copycat of anything? (Legit question - I don't own an epix pro)

Is there actually an epix pro watchface that looks like this?

The only face this even slightly reminds me of is the Apple Watch astronomy watchface, but other than the image of the Earth, it's not that similar.

Rips are gray area material to put it mildly and they really don't belong to the store even if they re-implement watch faces for models not supported by the originals.

I mean Garmin has long allowed devs to release blatant clones of model-specific watchfaces, with the literal model name/number right in the app title.

When I suggested in the forums that Garmin could've taken these watchfaces down at any time solely for trademark violations (e.g. unauthorized use of "Forerunner"), and that maybe they might start doing so because they have their own competing paid "all-star" watchfaces, the responses were incredulous and dismissive.

(Not that I want Garmin to do that ofc, but it seems like Garmin would've been well within their rights to do so, and I'm kinda surprised they didn't, since I imagine that one of the reasons they haven't ported model-specific watchfaces from new models to old models is that they want you to buy the new watch. The fact that they now charge you money if you want their own watchface "clones" kinda supports that theory imo. To be clear, I don't think there was ever any compelling reason for them to port new watchfaces back to old watches for free, despite the fact that users often requested this.)

  • Hi,
Sorry, but you posted your comment in the wrong thread.

This topic / thread is about a question concerning a watchface that I designed. It is available to sideload from watchfacebuilder site but then the settings will not be available when sideloaded. I wanted to share it (for free) to the IQ store but it keeps getting rejected without explanation.
