Driving app

I've started recording tracks on my VA to sit alongside my Garmin virb basic videos after I was involved in a car accident last week, and just have the video as proof that it wasn't my fault, without any speed indication. Thankfully it shows me stopped when I was hit so the video should help in this instance.

I'm using the cycling app as I don't cycle and having to change it to driving in GCM. Can anyone create an app to record this?

Lastly, which may need Garmin to enable it, but ideally I would like the app to also suspend step counting whilst it's running as my VA often records 1000 steps per hour I'm in the car, and I'm often in the car for at least 3 hours a day. The VA has quite an active thread on the matter.

There is no driving activity type exposed to ConnectiIQ (here is the list), so I believe you'd still have to manually change it in Garmin Connect. I recently made an Activity Recorder app that allows users to specify most of the provided activity types when recording (some activity sub-types can't be supported on the vivoactive yet due to a bug). I'm not sure it helps you, but it seems close to the functionality you want, just without the driving activity type.

Unfortunately, there is no way for ConnectIQ to disable step counting. For the time being you'll have to disable it in the settings if you want it off. I've filed an enhancement request asking that the a quick menu be added to disable step counting, an indicator so that the user knows their steps aren't being counted, and access to a flag so this can be seen and possibly toggled from ConnectIQ.
