CIQ3 advanced metrics

with the release of ciq3 will developers be able to bring advanced training metrics like training effect to the lesser watches such as the VA3?
  • The things you are looking for are firmware and not CIQ based. They are also related to device family: Vivo, Forerunner, Fenix - and likely won't change...

Thanks Jim. I’d read something about getting access to beat to beat heart rate (I’m guessing that means hrv) and wondered if that would mean more metrics available for developers to provide.
  • Performance Metrics like training effect, training status/load, VO2Max estimation, etc. are licensed from FirstBeat, so you won’t ever see that exact data in any watch which doesn’t already have it “out of the box”. I’m sure the license fee is built into the purchase price of the higher end watches. It’s the firstbeat algorithms you’re paying for, not the data already being collected by all watches.

Having said that, there are analogous metrics, such as TRIMP and Fitness Trend, which you can see for free.

if you sync with strava, you can use Chrome (on a PC/Mac) to visit strava.com and visualize your fitness trend with the free Stravistix extension. (Search the Chrome store.) It’s not exactly the same thing as training status/load, but it’s better than nothing.

You could also use the free website runalyze.com (which also works on mobile), but the level of detail they provide could be a bit overwhelming.
