An old thread, but I'd like to revive it. I do a lot of TRX and suspension type training, but there's no way to track this using the "strength app" because Garmin has very little (about 5 exercises) that fall into their predefined list of exercises. Everything would be great if you could edit the exercises, but Garmin doesn't allow this. Creating a workout in Connect doesn't work either. I'm look for something simple I can use with my 945 where I can edit the exercises I want and the amount of reps/sets with HR. There was an app called Work It Out Fitness Interval Training that was similar, but you could only add exercises with duration and not reps or sets. This would not only work for TRX workouts, but for anyone who does workouts with exercises Garmin left out. (HUNDREDS) Gym Genius work well, but I had issues with my account they failed to fix and I can't see spending $10 annually. It would be appreciated if anyone can assist and of course I'd be willing to pay for such an app. Thanks.
who knows based on what Gym Genius offers, the amount he's asking for doesn't seem too steep. It seems to be providing quite a lot of background service w/ calendars / structured workout planning and all that downloaded to your watch bypassing garmin (who like you said is not offering structured workouts for gym users etc)
I don't do TRX etc but just normal weight lifting and only track my rest time. That's what (to me) is simple. :-p
when you say reps/sets, you mean you want the app to automatically count the reps?
What about if it was just a simple thing like a comma separated list of workouts?
eg: bench press,10,3,dumbell curl, 12,3,pistol squat,8,3
where: bench Press = exercise name
10 = 10 reps (you manually count it)
3 = 3 sets
once that's over, you continue w dumbbell curl and so on?
Thanks for the quick reply.

As I said, Gym Genius works well, but I had a bad experience with them and no longer use their app. Even putting my personal bias aside, I'll never use their calendars, website or background services, so I can't justify the $10 annual fee.

I'm looking for an app that would act almost identical to Garmin's strength app. It doesn't even need to automatically detect reps. Being able to manually edit the reps I performed like Garmin's strength app does before moving to the next exercise would be a bonus. Here's my main problem. There are 40+ different TRX/Suspension exercises one can perform. Garmin only list 6 of those exercises and doesn't allow the user to input their own. As someone who does weightlifting, you know the importance of not performing the same exercise over and over again. So, you change up the exercise (not necessarily the targeted body part) to prevent adapting to that move and plateauing. You can currently track what exercises/reps you've done in Connect and have a historical record. I'm unable to track my exercises unless I use pen and paper. As Tess stated, this is also a problem for those that perform combo moves while weightlifting though Garmin has more to choose from compared to TRX/Suspension exercises. Having an app with the ability to create an upper body/lower body/core workout just so I know what I've done would be great. Currently, this is impossible with the strength app or creating a workout in Connect.
who knows okay.. no detecting reps then. also due to the cumbersome nature of having to input the exercises + reps + weight + sets into GC, I actually don't do that at all.
in a nut-shell, these are the important bits:
#1 should be simple as user input (similar to my example above)
eg: bench press,10,3,dumbell curl, 12,3,pistol squat,8,3
#2 this is tricky, based on the FitContributor (what developers can write to the fit file and have it uploaded into GC), we can either do graph / workout summary / (per) Lap summary. All these are Number / metrics. There really isn't an option to put
Others (developers) can chime in. In fact, we can't even write to the "notes" files on GC where you can actually edit and input your notes for that particular activity.
I didn't know about the limitations with #2. At this point I be happy with an app that just does #1. A means to have a list of what exercises I'm doing. I really don't understand why Garmin doesn't allow user's to edit exercises in GCM when using the strength app, or why I can't list what exercises I want to do when creating my own workout. It's been brought up in many forums and people have submitted the idea to Garmin. It seems like something simple to implement. Is the system really going to crash if I'm allowed to enter exercises currently not on Garmin's list such as standing fallouts. hamstring pull-ins, or Y-flys to name a few? Even if I can find a similar listed exercise there's a big difference between a lunge and a suspended lunge. I should be able to track that. I don't know. Maybe I'm wrong and it is complicated. Anyway, thanks for taking the time to respond Nikeow.
I just found this app listed for the FR935, but it looks like it was never fully developed and has since been abandoned.
Looked at the link. Then also looked at the instruction within that link. Err... I don’t get how it does allow the edit of exercise names. And does it go into GCM? And how does it work? Not really clear oh well
If you dislike using pen and paper to have on reference, how about just writing down notes for exercises to be executed on the watch? Just change the data screens to one that enables user notes to be entered?

Thatsactually the simplest
Asto what garmin goes. Well that’s what garmin does.
