Guitar tuner PRG

Hi all,

As a player myself, I would find it handy to have the ability on the watch....I can always tune a guitar.....but need the right key, with a tuner or an app its much easier......I would love this on my wrist in the form of a widget or app.

Implementation ideas
::::::::::::::::::
You could have the sound processor emit six notes, with a corresponding screen image of the note key.( design ideas?)
could be expanded to other string instruments in the future.
Standard tuning defines the string pitches as E, A, D, G, B, and E, from lowest (low E2) to highest (high E4).

fenix 5x.

Thanks for reading,
All the best,
Sam.
  • This is impossible, as far as I know at least... One can play some preset tones but no custom ones.
  • Thanks for the reply.... :--)
I see ...... so you haven't a full note scale available to tap into...ah well....
    Thanks again.
  • Further thought....

All I actually need to tune a guitar is just one of the pitch notes above....preferably the low E....but it dosen't matter.
I wonder if there is a sound beep with the same pitch available...
All i would need then is just a visual telling me the note...
I'll check some beeps on the watch now....but I dont know the full palette of beeps available within the IQ environment to fully test....
  • Or...I could tune a guitar with any beep pitch....
I would need .....the fret of the note pitch......and the visual to go with it...
It sounds like a simple version, but would work and the graphics could be imaginative....

    For instance....
I just tuned the guitar using a beep from the
" Colour Memo" game... one of the colour tiles has the corresponding key of " G#" ( four frets up on the "E" strings on a tuned guitar.)
  • That's an interesting thought, as I play guitar myself I am gonna see if I can cook anything up ;)
  • That's music to my ears FlipStone :--)
Thanks very much for giving the idea a go!
I'll help with testing/ beta prg's etc if you want me to.
    Awsome!
It would be so handy if it could work.....
    Àll the best,
And I wish you the very best of luck.
    Sam.

  • I built something that can tune to what I believe to be A

Have a few more options such as B, G, F# and 2 other A's... I can build a file for your watch and if you can test it (and check if my ears are indeed working properly) and I can put it online.

    I see you have a 5x right?

Here the files for the 5x... please put the files in your APPS fiolder (the .prg and the .debug.xml) and see if it works for you, created it as a widget for now. Key can be changed in garmin express or the connect mobile app. (Actually., that might not be possible for apps loaded this way... Otherwise I'll just publish it to the store)

Make sure alert tones are on btw, that fooled me first ;)

  • Thanks FlipStone,I will follow your instructions.
I've tested for a few developers, so hopefully I can give you good feedback.

Unfortunately my 5x is Rma'd back to Garmin England, and I wont receive it for at least two days.( I only have access to a Vivoactive hr)

As soon as it arrives, I can start testing and send you vids, pics and info.

Very frustrating for me as I'm excited to start! :--)

Unfortunately the Vivoactive HR is one of the few devices not supported for playing tones (Supported: All devices except Approach S60 / vivoactive / vivoactive HR) so in that case we'll just wait a bit ;)
  • I've just got a tracking number from Garmin...
So hopefully I'll get the 5x tomorrow.... :-)
