Intelligent calorie counts

Until now I assumed the calorie count from my Vivoactive HR took multiple factors like elevation, heart rate, and distance into account. I run the same route to work most days and calories are consistent. Today it snowed 6 inches (running in snow is hard!) and the run took me 40 minutes instead of 30, and my average heart rate was 10% higher the whole time, but the calories reported were the same as always. Why can't the app be smart enough to look at my average heart rate in a given activity to compensate for different terrains? This is the kind of intelligence I am looking for as I choose an ecosystem that I want to stick with.
