Datafield with communications

Hi,
I'm making an app that sends blood glucose values from smartphone to a ConnectIQ Device. Preferably I would like to create a datafield so that the user can add and view the values along with all other activity data. I see that the communications module is only available for widgets and apps, but is there any way around this? Maybe some other module I can use?

With 2.x devices running 2.3.x or higher and using the 2.3.1 SDK or higher, you can have a background process in a DF that does comm. At most it can only do it every 5 minutes though.

By the way, here's some info on backgrounding the same things apply when doing it in a DF, but you may want to add logic so the background only runs when the DF is being used.

From the code you posted, I see that you are missing the (:background) annotation on BgbgServiceDelegate and CommListener, but I'll assume your real code has it.

I think your main problem is that you need to set the Communications permission on your project. The lack of that permission would explain the error message on the line that you mentioned.

I have the (:background) annotiation before both of them, yes. I've also checked that communication permissions are given, as seen in the photo. Still same problem!

Hmm, tried it in the sim and it seems to work for 935 but not Edge 1000. Wish I could tell you why.

The edge/oregon/rino devices don't support the comm needed for companion apps at this point if I recall. You can use makeWebRequest with them, but that's it. I'm guessing there are bug reports about that as it's been that way for some time. If I find one, I'll update this post.

While it really should be in the api guide, there is this in the change log for the 2.2.2 SDK. I think there's a move to bring it back support though.

Remove support for communicating with the mobile Connect IQ SDK in the API for Edge, Oregon, and Rino devices.

Maybe do a bug report?

Thanks for the info Jim. Any idea why this feature has been removed from these devices? Hope they bring it back soon.
