Simple Weight Training App. Also, Simple Yoga App.

A simple app that just records time spent doing the activity. Maybe one that's "Other" and you can choose weights or yoga or something. Or one for each. Thanks.
  • I think it is useful if you describe the features you want.

If you just want something where you can select weight training as the activity type, turn gps off and heart rate on, and do your workout; I'm already working on it. If you want something more dedicated to activities like weightlifting, that will count multiple reps per set and multiple sets for each exercise, I'm working on that as well, but it will come after.

Note that there may already be some apps in the app store that do some, or all, of the things that you want.

As you just described, it would be an app that turns off the GPS and step counter etc, and just measures time and heart rate.
This would work for a gym workout. Thanks
  • The ConnectIQ API provides no mechanism to disable the step counter, so I can't help you there.

Otherwise, I believe I have a working implementation for this right now. What I've got allows you to select the activity type, enable and disable sensors for each activity type, enable and disable the GPS for each activity type, record activity data (including start/pause/lap support), and it displays several simple data fields (including heart rate, calories, and elapsed time).

I need to work around a few known issues in device firmware, but I should be able to publish it on Monday. My intent is that it will look very similar to the built-in activity applications on each device, but allow you to select the actual activity type. Initially it will just display the total time, calories, and heart rate and I'll be adding support for user-selectable data fields after the initial release.

Look forward to it, thanks for the work
  • I have a working beta version, but I haven't uploaded it to the Garmin App store yet. I'd like to get someone to volunteer to beta test this on a vivoactive, fenix3, and eventually an epix. If you're interested in helping me out, send a PM and I'll give you instructions on how to get it. Assuming that I get a tester and there are no serious problems, I should be able to upload to the store Monday evening.

Curious about what happened with this :) I know I'd be very interested
  • there are already quite a few of these sort of apps on the store already.
What's missing? Perhaps lets the developers know.

    Great! Thank you.
I guess I'm not searching on the right words. Any suggestions for how to search the store? Or favorites anyone has? Trying to find something for yoga, maybe the elliptical. Usually it's not this hard for me, I promise ;) thank you!

    Hi Travis,
This thread is a bit old, but I was wondering what happened with your Yoga App.

I have had an Edge 500 + a vivofit for the past 2 years, and I was considering moving to the fenix 3. I bicycle, do yoga & a bit of weight lifting, so I am really interested in the ability to track yoga sessions & even the weight lifting part of this thread.

    Thanks!
