[REQUEST] Training plans on Vivoactive

It would be great if there could be an app that could either pull training plans from https://connect.garmin.com/modern/training-plan onto the Vivoactive, or replicate the training plan input screen on either the watch or from another website.
  • Hmmmm....

A very big one, I would say. Every modern training program in the year 2015 uses interval training. It´s a shame to deliberately keep the function away from this otherwise great device. My 2009 Forerunner 310XT has tons of features superior to this watch concerning running. And that´s really not nice, cause six years in technology is a very long time. The Vivoactive would be perfectly suited to have all the functions the old forerunner had. Product differentiation or not, this is a "castration" and not a differentiation. Have mercy with your so far happy customers!
  • if u look at Samsung vs Apple in terms of phones.
Samsungs have one for every little niche market. Sub 50$ to couple hundred bucks phones.

Apple had a minute few lines of differentiation and eVery thing is a premium.
I'm not surprised if garmin chose this route to better differentiate and sate users desire.
    Want X - upgrade.
    Want Y - upgrade
Want Z - oh,new have that. Toss up couple bucks more.

But with ConnectIQ - u can at least pay developers to create what you want. Not ideal, but hey, it's called choices.

Agree with Travis - Product Differentiation.

That's y we have D2Bravo and the F3. Same exact thing.
  • For things like training plans, it's also a matter of real resources on the device (memory and CPU). The va won't support things that are on other devices for the simple matter of the "engine". The VA is the low end of the current running watch Garmin Market, and doesn't have the "OOMPH" of a 920 or F3... (they are much more expensive, as there is more "oomph"!)
  • Well...

You don´t want to say that an interval timer uses lots of CPU-resources or memory (that´s just a few bytes), do you? And also, the VA, no matter how much at the "low end" it might be, is surely many times superior to a 310XT, which is six years older.

sounds like u just need a stopwatch.

:) Sounds like you never did any running :)
  • On some Garmin devices you can create a "plan" on GC and download it to your watch. That won't happen. Not enough "OOMPH"!

The VA doesn't even handle current or new PRs, which even my FR15 did - again, not enough "OOMPH"! :)

Doing things like managing PRs and downloaded plans are a FW thing....

It very much depends on how you want to set this data - the most common is to set up things on GC and download. That hasn't been an option with the VA since it was announced, and won't be available later.

When "user config" is available in a few months, you might be able to set a few things, but it won't be like just downloading a workout...
