[REQUEST] Training plans on Vivoactive

It would be great if there could be an app that could either pull training plans from https://connect.garmin.com/modern/training-plan onto the Vivoactive, or replicate the training plan input screen on either the watch or from another website.
  • Thanks, I guess there are two things that differ to the Weight training request.
1- Would be the functionality to add different variables rather than just time, certain distance, HR Zone etc, rather than just
2- The Vivoactive doesn't support workouts from Garmin connect natively as far as I'm aware? I know the Fenix 3 and 920 XT do, so this would be Vivoactive specific
  • I'm not sure about your first item. What other variables would you want? As for device support, the 920 doesn't provide a way to create a full-fledged workout (just a simple interval set with one repeat loop and a warm up/cool down). I think the functionality would be useful for all devices.

  • I've just found out that Workouts are not supported on the Vivoactive device! I don't understand why as the cost of the device is not cheap and this is such an obvious feature people want to use to progress.
Perhaps someone can develop a third party C-IQ app but not many seem to be appearing soon. I have setup the SDK environment myself but am not a developer so wont be producing anything soon.
I'll put a feature request into Garmin and ask them on a ticket but if anyone has any idea if something will be coming like this soon I'd appreciate the heads up.
  • I think it would be great to have an app available...at least with some easy workouts (Warm up, Interval distance, Rest distance, Cool down...like on the 220). I don´t need the workout planner on connect....just simple Intervals on watch....
  • Hi Travis,
As Markinneus says, it would be great to allow for creation of easy workouts, warm up, XX minutes in HR zone Y etc either on the phone, or to develop an app that interfaces with the workout creator on Garmin Connect to allow for workouts to be created there and pushed over to the Vivoactive, as can be done with other units; although I don't know how possible this is?

  • I'd like to write a single generic application that allows for simple and more complicated workouts. Having one that meets the needs of a few is not good enough. I expect that I'll start out with something simple and it will improve with time. I just need to finish my current project.... :)

As for transferring the data from Garmin Connect, that isn't going to happen unless something changes with the Garmin Connect API. Currently there is no legal way to get the data from there without paying a rather large licensing fee ($5000).

That would great! The situation with GC, vivoactive and workouts is messed up right now. GC actually gives the option to send workouts to a vivoactive device but nothing happens. And vivoactive already has an alert feature which can give you an alert based on your heart rate, so it's really there...
It's a shame to limit an otherwise great device.
  • Two words. Product differentiation.
  • I would like to be able to design a workout and upload it to vivoactive. Apparently other Garmin devices can do this, as it is available on Garmin Connect, but I can't upload them. This is a big miss for a sports watch.
