Many data fields (IQ) I had for the F3 are not up for the F5x

What's happening?
Where's Distance to Start... where's the Altitude GAIN datafield? How comes there's so FEW IQs for the Fenix5, can anyone explain?
  • Contact the developer of the data fields and ask. They likely have to make some changes to their code.
  • I hear you man, I contacted many also, got some replies, they say 'coming soon'

I found a data field with formulas to build a data field... there's too few data to select and, of course... altitude/elevation is missing.
How comes there's so few for the F5 I wonder? There were hundreds for the F3 but if I'm not mistaken I can't find the "gain" in global search either. What the heck happened to all those IQs why have they disappeared?
  • Summer period is holidays period for developpers too. You can use Garmin datafield if you are lacking delivery ;)
  • Don't know if you're talking about my data field:
    https://apps.garmin.com/en-US/apps/deb4b872-48be-409c-b91a-9b8485d2fc80#0

I recently updated it to support altitude, total ascent and total descent. But those are already available as normal data fields. I thought that "altitude gain" is the same as total ascent. If Garmin is calculating it wrong, I guess you would need an app that does more than apply formulas to data that garmin already provides.

Yes, that is the datafield I was talking about.
Can you build the GAIN IQ app?

GAIN is not total ascent. It is total ascent - total descent, it should be relatively simple to do it. ;)

What about the Distance to Start?

If you are willing, Flow, I have MANY ideas for IQ fields you can build.

Hmm I was guessing that's what you meant. I guess strava (and garmin) define elevation gain as total ascent, so that's where I was confused.

Anyway, you can build it yourself now with the current version of the app. Enter the formula:

    totalAscent - totalDescent

The result will be in either feet or metres (depending on your device settings).

If you're interested, check out the forum to see what variables and functions are available now:
    https://forums.garmin.com/forum/developers/connect-iq/connect-iq-showcase/1227689-data-field-appbuilder

It's still a work in progress, as I'm trying to figure what kinds of things will work, and what people are interested in.

I'm not sure if Distance to Start is something that can be calculated with that kind of app, though. I'm really just looking at refining that app for now, as sort of a fun project.

If they did it with the F3... it can be done with the F5. Rather than the courses, it just plots a line from your location to the start location. The aerial distance, so to speak.
Very strange things they did with the F5... no autoscroll for swimming just to mention one... the docking station perfect... changed for a cable that gives connection problems... and now the IQ apps missing or not compatible (apparently not just because of differences in display size).

Can you program a shortcut for example? Is it actually possible to build a shortcut to a precise menu and enter a precise value (altimeter)?
  • Not sure what you mean by a shortcut? Do you mean a webapp that builds formulas for you?

Or do you mean a shortcut on the watch?

Is there a way to code something that lets you skip the 50 button keypresses to calibrate the altimeter to a known value?
That's what a shortcut is. One or Two presses to set, for example, the altimeter (which I need to calibrate after swimming) to a known value without going through the menus and pressing 50 buttons...
