I'd love some smart developer out there to make a ConnectIQ app that works for backcountry skiing. Now I have to choose between the cross-country skiing and hiking apps, and neither is really ideal. I'd even pay money to purchase that app. And having read through some of the forums here, it sounds like others would as well.
A little late but maybe still relevant: You can create a multi sport activity and use the manual lap functionality to switch between skiing and walking. Maybe this was not available at the time.
