Lone sport injury detector

Hi all,

I'm a firefighter and when we wear breathing apparatus we have a thing called a bodyguard (Google dräger bodyguard) which constantly monitors our stats like air supply and breathing rate. It also detects our movement and if we stay still for 30 seconds, we get an audible warning which will turn off if we move but if we stay still for a further 10 seconds a loud alarm will sound and can not be turned off until we are outside the building and put a tally inside the unit. This is so people know we have been static for a long period of time and are likely to be in danger.

I am now wondering if something similar can be done for the garmin watches software or an app which runs whilst you do a live track activity. I do a lot of mountain biking alone and I tend to be rather silly sometimes and I have injured myself a lot. What I was thinking was have something that detects movement and rather than detecting a sudden movement and translating that into a crash, it will detect no movement and issue a warning which can be cleared via the watch, if the warning is not cleared then another warning gets sent to the live track contact informing them of the users non movement and location and they can then either attempt to contact them or go looking for them.

Can this be done?

Thank you for reading, hopefully it makes sense.
  • Couldn't it be done using a companion app? I mean, create a watch app that tracks an activity per usual, and also detect a lack of movement at the watch. Lack of movement could then signal the companion app to contact somebody. LiveTrack could be manually activated in the Garmin Connect phone app as per usual and would not be relevant to the function of the custom app + companion, except being started when you start the activity and also as a reference to where you are located (presumably the same contact person got the LiveTrack email).

EDIT: Rather than needing a separate app for each sport, couldn't the activity type (that shows up in Garmin Connect) be set in the app settings?

It would have to be a full blown watch-app per activity type, and if it hit a web site or an app on the phone would be up to the developer.

It couldn't be a data field you could add to an app, as DF's can't do any comm at all (direct to the internet or to an app on the phone.

There's no way to just have a CIQ app that watches stuff in the background all the time..

This REALLY is something to be done in the base FW, as they did with the Edge devices... There, things can be "watched" in the background...
  • But it could be done with a watch app and a companion app, or a web service (watch app merely sends an http request to the web server). A lot of work, but could be done.
  • Espirita note

I'm in process of creating an app with simular functions with bike/run support.
