request weather watch face

I'd just like to be able to glance down and see my heart rate and something like current day's steps, calories, distance and EEEE, MMMM dd date + AM/PM time.

...but also the current weather or high/low for the day as well as humidity maybe windspeed and weather conditions. Sunset time would be nice but I can't get any watch faces to show it.

Several watch faces can do the health stats but I cannot find any which would show current weather conditions. Is it possible?

Screenshot attached of a little proof of concept.

Thanks all!
  • To get the weather remotely, it would have to get that off the internet, and watchfaces can't do any comm (it's all about the battery).

Widgets and watch-apps can though, and also access sensors such as the Tempe. Click on the link in my sig , and you'll see "Time and Tempe" which looks lkie a watch face but shows also shows tempe data. There are also watchfaces that will show the internal temp from the watch itself, and widgets for the tempe and and weather from the internet.
  • To deliver what you've described – with respect to the information requirements, and the operational requirement of being always ready for perusal without user interaction (cf. “glance down and see”) – such an Connect‑IQ app does not have to be a watch face, and as jim_m_58 has explained, cannot be a watch face.

As long as you're prepared to live with the greater power consumption, as well as not being able to access widgets directly from that screen, a ‘watch app’ can do what you want. I suppose the app can even allow you to start recording a FIT file with manual button-presses.
  • I have an (unreleased as of now) watch-app, that looks like a watch face and has the common options, and by default updates the current weather every 20 minutes, and the 4 day forecast every hour (there are 3 extra screens of data). It does burn a bit more battery than a watch face. But as of now, you can't see the current weather on any watch face (native or CIQ).

I'm not sure why I'd want to record a .fit with it though! :)

So, there's a precanned widget made by Garmin on my Fenix 5 which already pulls in the weather. So I don't understand what you're saying.
  • Widgets and watchfaces have different permissions and things they can do. Today, a widget can access the internet, and a watchface can't.

BUT, a Beta SDK (2.3.0) was just released last week, where a watchface CAN access the internet in a back ground process... So stay tuned! Not sure when apps will be in the store for this, but they are likely on the way!
