Hi i need someones help in developing a simple app which shows the location im at using GPS but displayed in MGRS format. I know there is such an app in garmin connect but i need the gps to use the following settings.
Datum - kertau 1948
Spheroid - Mod Everest
RSO - West malaysia
i need the gps to display the mgrs using those settings because of the map(hardcopy) im currently using uses those settings.

UTM is by definition WGS84 so you will have to replace some of the parameters with your datum. MGRS is just a specific representation of UTM coordinates. Details on how to convert UTM notation into MGRS can be found here:

    Hi thanks for your reply
But the thing is my hardcopy map is in a different datum that the gps uses, so i will require an app which allows me to change the datum n RSO n Spheroid

Yes, I understand that. What I do not understand, however, is what kind of help do you need:
    1. Do you want do develop an app yourself but you don't know how?
    or
    2. Do you want someone to develop an app for you?

At one point I was considering making an app which would allow to display coordinates in user-selectable spheroid/datum and/or grid, but I gave up for various reasons. So I am quite convinced that no such app exists for the FR735XT. So if you are not capable of developing such an app on your own, then I guess you are out of luck. Sorry.

Yes, but your app shows MGRS based on WGS84, and Jcommando needs different datum.
  • Can't he just switch in the settings of the 735 to kertau 1948 and Mod Everest?

That would be cool, wouldn't it? I don't know how it looks on the more hiking-oriented watches like the F3 or F5, but unfortunately the 735 does not have that option.

thanks guys but im looking for someone who can develop an app which allow the user to tweak the setting of a gps to display in mgrs format. The reason why is because FR735xt does not allow user to do so but fenix 3 n 5 allow user to tweak their gps settings , however i do not wish to spend additional money just to get another watch with the same built in gps. I just wanna see if anyone is able to create an app which allow users to tweak the settings. ill be super grateful if anyone can do that.

Sorry to dissapoint you, but if you are not capable of developing such an app yourself, then I'm afraid no one is going to do it for you. Besides an IQ app would have its limitations in comparison to native MGRS/custom grid/custom datum support in other devices.

Not that you're offering or intending to pay such a developer to provide you with what you want, do not have, and cannot provide for yourself; you just want additional value and capability from the device completely free of costs to yourself, at someone else's expense of time and effort.

Would that be the correct interpretation of what you wrote?
