request . app for concept 2 pm 5 indoor rowing

Any know if there is possible to connect 920xt to concept pm 5 monitor.
Or it is possible to make an app for it ?
  • Are you sure it's a hw issue?
I always thought that the watch was considering the PM4 as a sensor.
  • I posted a question a while ago about if ANT+FE or committing data to a activity recording session was going to be coming up. This was the specific use case I was wondering about since I was willing to try getting it to work. The ANT+FE system works differently then a ANT+ sensor would work, I don't have much experience so I won't detail how I believe it works to prevent incorrect information from being spread. At this point there doesn't appear to be a way to replicate the FR60/70 and 910XT functionality until the SDK allows you to commit data to an activity recording session or they bring back ANT+FE support.

For me, I am continuing to use the FR70 for rowing and the fenix 3 for everything else till something gets worked out.
  • Lions like it works with 910. Taking this from concept forum

It depends on how much you have to pay for a new one. It's allways possible to retrofit pm5 for $200, and if its used only a few times, it is as good as new unless it is stored outdoor in rain and other bad weatherm. PM4 have logcard and pm5 have usb stick. I never use the usb stick on my pm5, because I use android ergdata to sync with concept2 online loggbook. If you buy a modell d with pm4, I guess you will have to buy a cardreader if yoy want to use the logcard. I think its about 50$ For the cardreader. Pm5 have background light on the display. That is nice if the rower is i a dark room.
In the future the ergdata will sync wireless with android . It can sync wireless with iphone today.
Both pm4 and 5 can connect to some garmin watches. (310xt and 910xt and some other olser models). I just sold my 920xt and bought a 910xt, because it could not sync.
I don't know what future firmware will bring, but if pm5 will support connection to 920xt I will be very upset :-)

Cheaper than the card reader, a usb wire will do the trick.

Does anyone know if this would work with the Garmin Fenix2? It has ant+ capability, not sure of the difference/if it supports ant+fe as well.

    Appreciate any guidance.

As of now, neither the Fenix 2 or 3 will connect to the PM5. My 610 does, but negatron on the newer watches. Still hoping someone releases an app to replicate the data captured by the older watches. When you're used to BT and wifi uploads, firing up the laptop just to upload via ANT+ with the 610 is a pain. If I wasn't using the rower as a significant cross training tool in my ultra training, I probably wouldn't care, but having the duration, HR stats, etc captured matters.

    any updates??

I've used the 310xt with great success with a PM4 - i then upgraded to the 910xt and although it still connected I lost the spm (strokes per minute) which came through as cadence - was handy to keep an eye on. So looking at getting the fenix 2 or 3 but it seems neither have the right stuff to connect to a concept2 erg - is this still the case? the power on/off button is getting temperamental on my 910 grrr
  • The PM5 will connect via BLE to an iphone/ipad running Concept2's ErgData app, so it is possible to read the data from the PM5 via BLE. In fact ErgData will display a lot more data than the PM5. I am told by Concept2 support that the forthcoming update to ErgData will fix the crashing on startup problem with iOS9 and will permit data export.

I have the 920 and a PM4 and have a working prototype to get them to be friends. It involves connecting my laptop to the PM4 to read data via USB connection, then some custom software to send that data out over an ANT+ USB stick as bike speed and power sensors. It's a bit of a hack but works and gives HR (directly from HRM-RUN), speed, cadence and power.

So far I created a custom activity profile based on "Indoor Bike" which means my activities show up as biking and maybe the 920 is getting calories wrong (though they don't look bad and I guess must be heavily influenced by power and HR which are both available). I shall try a custom activity based on "Indoor Rowing" but I'm not sure if that will try to get cadence from the movement of the 920 (more like a swim activity)?

As it is it's fine but would be even better if the activities showed as rowing, especially as I'm now working on a similar hack to make the 920 be friends with my Kettler ErgoRacer :D
  • Update

The new version of ErgData (1.2.39 (12)), was released on the app store yesterday. Haven't had any time to play with it yet.

please count me in for this request. here's what I've got:

    Concept2 PM4
    Garmin Epix
    2 different HR straps

    here's what I'm doing today:

Concept2 PM4 connected via USB to Laptop running RowPro
Concept2 PM4 connected via ANT to older Garmin HR strap (not the Run strap which doesn't seem to work)
    No Garmin device
Manual transfer from RowPro to whatever app (Garmin, Strava, Sport Tracks, etc.) I am using to track workouts

    here's what I'd rather do:

Concept2 PM4* connected via ANT to Garmin Epix (while wearing Run strap**)
Automatic transfer of workout data, including distance rowed, calories, time, stroke data, etc., to all my apps, from Garmin Connect

Please don't hesitate to use me as a guinea pig! Would love to help test anything that might make this happen.

*prefer to not have to upgrade to PM5 if possible
**prefer to use Run strap so I can go for a run right before or after rowing without changing strap
