What kind of information would be relevant to be tracked/displayed... If you could provide more details, i'm sure that some of the guys around would be more than welcome to try something out.
It looks to me like the PM5 is just a display just reads data from a flywheel sensor and from a compatible heart rate monitor. It doesn't transmit any information, so there is nothing that you could do on a 920.
If someone wanted to go nuts, it _might_ be possible to use the race system jacks to connect to an external device, but that would be a bunch of work. They'd have to find documentation for the communications protocol or reverse engineer it, build a custom bit of kit (maybe something based on a Arduino) to speak that protocol on one side and then to act as an ANT+ sensor on the other. It seems to me it would be a lot of work and there would be an associated cost. i.e., not something the average toy project guy would want to take on.
Was hoping that the 920 could recive data and then upload it to garmin connect. I think the 910 was able to recive data from the concept pm 4 monitor. can you please look at this links.
The PM4 had the Link functionality that allowed it to transmit data to to ANT+ devices like the 910XT. As far as I can see from the documentation, that isn't available on the PM5.
Lions like it works with 910. Taking this from concept forum
It depends on how much you have to pay for a new one. It's allways possible to retrofit pm5 for $200, and if its used only a few times, it is as good as new unless it is stored outdoor in rain and other bad weatherm. PM4 have logcard and pm5 have usb stick. I never use the usb stick on my pm5, because I use android ergdata to sync with concept2 online loggbook. If you buy a modell d with pm4, I guess you will have to buy a cardreader if yoy want to use the logcard. I think its about 50$ For the cardreader. Pm5 have background light on the display. That is nice if the rower is i a dark room. In the future the ergdata will sync wireless with android . It can sync wireless with iphone today. Both pm4 and 5 can connect to some garmin watches. (310xt and 910xt and some other olser models). I just sold my 920xt and bought a 910xt, because it could not sync. I don't know what future firmware will bring, but if pm5 will support connection to 920xt I will be very upset :-)
The 910xt and the 310xt (and 610) do connect to the PM5 using ANT+ FE (Fitness Equipment). You get tons of information: HR, pace, distance, cadence, power etc. etc.
The 920XT does not support ANT+ FE, that is why it does not connect.
If anybody can make an app, so the 920XT can connect with ANT+FE, then the problem is solved.
Do you think it will be possible to do this. or do i have to buy 910 or 610 to get this to work. The pm5 also have bluetooth BLE connection if that will help.
I clearly don't have the best track record when it comes to answering questions in this post, but I'll take a stab at it. Hopefully someone will come around and show that I'm all wrong...
Assuming a ConnectIQ application could connect to the PM4/PM5, it should not be difficult to read and display the data it outputs. I've not read enough about the ANT+ spec and the ANT functionality of ConnectIQ to be able to tell. That said, it doesn't seem that would be very useful on its own.
If the devices can be paired and data can be read, the next logical step would be to record that data. If you want to be able to record your activity to a .fit file on the 920 (suitable for direct upload to Garmin Connect and other services), you'll have to wait for the firmware for the 920 to add direct support for fitness devices or for ConnectIQ to get the ability to specify the data stored in a .fit file.
If a direct recording isn't required, a developer could write an application that could receive data from the 920XT and record it somewhere where it could be merged with, or turned into, a valid .fit file (like the Moxy app).
I don't know what the future will bring, but I guess the Ant+FE is a hardware installation, and not possible to get with a firmware update. The PM5 also has a bluetooth smart, (not the same as bluetooth). I think this is just for HRM-belts. Garmin 920XT has bluetooth, but I don't think it has bluetooth smart. I'm not very sure about this and I may take wrong.
Yes, I also liked the 920XT very much, and 910XT is a bit step backwards. I waited like 1-2 month before I got my 920XT, so I got very dissapointed when I could not pair it to PM5. I read that the 910, 310 and other garmin watches was compatible, so I think 920 also was.
