Vivoactive GPS - Backlight on with flip of wrist?

I posted this in the Wrist Worn forum but got no respose :o

I did search.

Coming from a Pebble I'm used to have the backlight "switch" on by a quick flip of the wrist.

Would this be possible with the Vivoactive GPS I just bought?
  • The original vivosmart did that but I have not seen that on the vivoactive.

Is it something that the Whatchface could do?

The one I current use shows the seconds when I flip the watch, could be the some movent that makes it come on.

It is also coming on when receiving notifications so there is some mechanism in place.
  • By "vivoactive GPS" it's not clear if you mean the va-hr or the va as they both have GPS :)

settings>system>backlight>gesture (on the watch) for the vivoactive HR. (wrist turns etc - same time that many CIQ watchfaces drop out of low power and display the seconds)

    "Always on","Only During Activity", "Off"

On the vivoactive, settings>system>backlight (you need to tap the screen or something for Keys/Alerts)

    "Keys/Alerts", "Manual","Smart Notifications"

    Thanks!

I knew this and I've set it to: Notifications.

The thing is that I sometimes need to look at my watch when I have no hands free to push the button.

On a Pebble you just flip your wrist and it come on.

I was hoping that this could be done with the Vivoactive GPS to.

There is no "vivoactive GPS" (both the va and va-hr have GPS :) ) It sounds like you have a va and not a va-hr (the hr's screen is in page mode and has a hrm, while the va's screen is in landscape), as you can do what you want on the va-hr.

Try using "keys/alerts" on the va, as you might be able to trigger it by bumping it with your elbow or something. (I forget if it's got to be a physical key, the touch screen or screen buttons)

AH, it is just the Vivoactive, not the HR.

It is called Vivocative GPS in the shop where I bought it, no clue why.

Setting it to "keys/alerts" you still have to swipe the screen, bumping or just touching it is not enough :(

Just to add: With Pebble this is a setting in the watch itself.

As it is on the va-hr, and the fr 235/630 and others. Just not on the va... As these watches go, the va is one of the older ones with Connect IQ, and the lower end one.

    OK, thanks.

I like the square look and the touchscreen, that is why I bought this.

Hopefully Garmin will introduce a new version and not only round ones.
I do not like round ones.

I mainly use it for daily activity's (walking, sleep-analysis) and notifications form my Phone.
The VA-HR is to plain looking for me.
