[REQUEST] apps for Crossfit

I was curious if one of you could develop what i think would be a couple pretty basic apps that would make the F3 a useful tool for Crossfit.

1) An AMRAP Timer. (Basically a countdown timer with a lap counter) AMRAP = As Many Rounds As Possible
So for example, the user would want to do a workout where he/she does as many rounds as possible in 10 minutes. The app would need to be able to set a 10 minute timer. While the timer is counting down from 10 minutes, the user would press a button as he/she completed rounds. The watch would then set off an alarm at the end of the 10 minutes and display the amount of rounds completed.

A couple of thoughts....
- the length of the timer would need to be something the user could set...10 minutes, 15 minutes, etc.
- the alarm at the end of the countdown should use as many alerts as possible, audio, vibrate, flash screen, etc. but also be user selectable as to which ones to use.
- during the activity, you should be able to see the countdown timer and the number of rounds completed.
- would you be able to add a 10 second countdown before the timer starts. for example...once you press start on a 10 minute workout...the watch counts down 10 seconds to give you time to set up for the start. it would also be helpful to get a short audio alert on 3...2...1...and then a longer alert for GO.

2) An AMRAP Counter. (Basically a stopwatch with a lap counter)
This would function exactly like the above timer except that instead of a countdown timer, the clock would just keep running. When the user hits the stop button, He/she would want to see how many rounds were completed and the time it took to complete them.

Thank you for your help. please feel free to PM me if you have any questions. And on behalf of all the Crossfitters out there...THANK YOU!!!!!!
  • I've already implemented ConnectIQ apps that do both of these things. I'll upload them to the app store as soon as app functionality is enabled in device firmware.

  • I'll submit tonight when I get off work.
  • Nick,

Were you imagining this as two separate apps, or just one? Widgets or Apps?

    Nick,

I'm not sure what the coding difficulty would be... But I originally envisioned it as an app labeled CrossFit that when selected has two options for the timers mentioned in the original post. But thinking about it more, it may only be possible to have two sperate apps for each of the timers.

It could also be a widget, but personally I would prefer it to be an app so as not to have too many widgets to scroll through since I use the watch on a daily basis for weather, notifications, and what ever else may be developed.
  • I had originally written a single widget that changed mode, but the widget system doesn't seem to want me to use the up/down keys (which I was using to switch between modes). I made it into an app and it seemed to work just fine.

I just spent an hour splitting it into two separate apps. I like it better, but then there is the disadvantage that you can only have 16 apps installed at a time. I'm wondering if I should revert my changes and get it back to being a single app.

  • Is the app online already?
    Thanks.
  • No, I haven't bothered to submit it/them yet since there is nobody around to approve it until tomorrow morning.

  • Both apps have been submitted. They haven't been approved yet, but I'm assuming that will go through in the morning (3/9). If you have any feedback, please feel free to post here or post it as a review on the appropriate app's page.
