ANT+ Speed - 'Running' - Wheelchair user

Hi

I am a ParaTriathelte -

We use a racing wheelchair as an alterantive for the 'run' - we tend to be a fair bit quicker than the average runner and do alot of training on a track.

GPS speed doesnt seem to be responsive enough, or consistent enough.

I have an Ant+ BikeSpeed Sensor.

Id love to be able to record a run, but with the speed coming from the Bike sensor (or use an Edge unit but save the FIT file as a run and not a ride.

I need it to save as a run to differentiate from a ride

Thanks

  • You can record it as Cycling, and change it to Run in Garmin Connect.

  • The Venu3 and va5 both have a wheelchair mode, where if you turn it on, pushes and push goal are used instead of steps and step goal.

    And there are new activities.

Push - walking speed and Push - running speed

Maybe worth trying one of those devices?

Are you using GPS during the activities?  That would then be the source for speed...

  • trux's answer is the best way to go. If you were looking for a 3rd party CIQ solution (such as a data field that connects to a cycling speed/cadence sensor), I think CIQ would not meet your needs, as it would be unable to natively record speed and distance in the same way as when an activity natively records speed and distance. (Speed and distance could be recorded a CIQ data field, but they would never override speed and distance recorded by the activity. In general, CIQ apps cannot override native activity metrics.)

  • Thanks very much for the answer(s) - you’ve saved me wasting my time trying to create a data field!

my issue with switching the activity - apart from it being a PITA, I don’t believe that it exports with the ‘new’ activity type so integration with third party apps is a problem.

I know from these forums that somebody set up an app to do it (set up to not use GPS at all)… but id lose all other functionality like scheduled workouts etc

Bit frustrating Garmin accommodates every sport imaginable but not for those of us with disabilities! (Those devices mentioned above aside).
